Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon re recent AISE

Thanks for reporting that the word "budget" caused a fault...

This is getting ridiculous!  Please register at phpBB3 test site and make a post. We'll upgrade you to Regular Member as soon as either of us logs in and finds the request. I'd definitely be interested in what you think of it.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon .... re possible new topic ...

You've become someone whose knowledge of the forum archive is greater than that of any of the other currently active members.

We appear to have need for a place in the forum structure where members can report what they think are discrepancies between information provided by one source as compared to another.

An example is the recent post by kbd512, in a topic about hydrogen fuel celled vehicles.

kbd512 appears to have found a difference between a report from 2019 and one from 2023, and it is probably worth noting.  However, the hydrogen fuel cell topic is not the best place for such a report.   By any chance, do we have a topic were reports of differences in media reporting might be presented?

If we do not, do you have a recommendation for such a topic?

Reminder ... we have a possible new home for the forum in test / evaluation .. please Register at the phpBB3 site and let us know what you think.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon re post in Physics topic ...

Thank you for finding and posting the report at: http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php … 85#p222085

Your skepticism sure does seem justified.

On the ** other ** hand, if there ever ** is ** a discovery of aspects of the operation of the Universe we don't already know, it is likely to come from somene willing to try out new ideas.

The claim of production of thrust against Earth's gravity seems testable.

Please follow up on this report (if you have time and if the subject is of interest to you).

If no one can replicate the thrust reported, the claim will fall by the wayside, but the line of thought might have potential.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon in AI topic ...

Thanks for finding and posting the MIT study report at: https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 78#p222178

That was a **very** interesting read!

I thought the first comment by a reader was insightful ... that reader encouraged use of the tool to predict the behavior of political leaders facing challenging problems.

While the comment was probably offered in jest, it ** does ** point to the direction AI researchers may well be asked to look, by leaders of Nation States trying to ferret out the best possible path forward in complex and dangerous situations. At present, the universal "solution" is to try to enlist the smartest people on the planet (or in the Nation at least) to help with analysis. The AI tool would be just one more "advisor", but in the end, the political leader has to make a decision.

Re post on Germany dropping fission ...

Why Germany ditched nuclear before coal – and why it won’t go back
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/why-germany-d … 19542.html

Thanks for finding and posting the link to this article!

Germany is (collectively as near as I can tell) making a significant bet.

However, that bet includes fusion, although fusion was not mentioned in the article ... The decision to avoid fission places additional pressure on inventors of renewable systems (on one hand) and on fusion (other hand behind the back).

If you run across articles about how this ** really big bet** turns out, please post the links here.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon re post on Pitcairn Island....

http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php … 53#p222653

I was inspired to ask Google about the present status of the island, and found there is a web site: https:..government.pn

I'm both amazed and not surprised that there might be an Internet domain for this location.

The website is updated as of 2023.

The population is reported to be 50 people.

I would like to call this web site to the attention of NewMars members who might be curious to look at a long lived very small population in a very restricted habitat.  That is likely to be the situation on Mars, for a subset of communities.  The Million Person vision of Elon Musk is a much more realistic number for achieving self-sufficiency.

Go to the bottom of the web site, to see the links to various government related activities and reports.

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

For Mars_B4_Moon re post about IQ...

(and thanks for all your posts while I'm at it!)...

National IQs: A review of their educational, cognitive, economic, political, demographic, sociological, epidemiological, geographic and climatic correlates
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a … 9611001413
' negative correlations between national IQ and temperature, showing that national IQs are higher in countries with lower temperatures. These results confirm the theory that population differences in IQ evolved over tens of thousands of years in response to the cognitive demands of survival in cold winters'

The link you provided looks well worth following ... my first reaction is to note that plenty of humans have lived in northern climates without generating genius, so there may be other factors at work.  Never-the-less, your overall point that the constant threat of a nasty death on Mars will encourage intelligent decision making seems well founded.

I just noticed that the link did not copy correctly ...
Here's the link regenerated from the original: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/a … 9611001413

Re: Mars B4 Moon postings

Is dot Pluto or dot ISS a site or dot Mond or dot Lune or not Luna or dot Moon a thing yet?

Dot Phobos or Dot Olympus dot Titan or dot Europa or dot Mars?

Some islands make a lot of money on that whole internet name thing. What could happen with Solar system wide communication beamed and emails going from the Moon to Asteroids and Mars, there will be a delay so sites might be backed up and copied. If we do have a system of communication beamed, could a small island make money from communication? A far off colony makes cash when someone builds and mirrors the first of the 'space websites' or when we enhance animal and cyborg and ET tries to phone home will someone make money? On Earth there are country codes, domains use the English Latin Alphabet to identify themselves, some like Thailand are now starting to use Internationalized country-code with their own alien and unique Old Thai Khmer script while gTLDs have to obey international regulations. The small island country is it worth having your own domain .pn for example? Belize and Bahamas look as it it is a dot business site  a French island Mayotte 'YT' can act as a mirror for you tube social media videos,  i2p provides a hidden pseudo-domain, .i2p. the crypto currency Namecoin uses the .bit pseudo-domain. A site which might historically describe what Turks did in an Armenia domain can use confused for the United States of America while Ascension confused for an accountant Island the Tuvalu confused with online tv show streaming and Laos can be confused for a city 'Los Angeles' and Anguilla an island protected by British is now in demand as Artificial Intelligence groups want their own website for new tech companies.

Pitcairn a website which can be confused for sites which have collections of telephone book 'phone numbers'?
