This is an average of most impact computer models. Some comets hit at 100,000 mph. But, they break up more upon impact. But, most of the comets are larger.

Look at the water displacement occuring at 23,000 mph assuming it didn't break apart.

This guy is way off from what I hear and read. The Tusnami would be 100 times that high at the least.

"The interesting part of this mission is that we don't really know what to expect," said Don Yeomans, a senior research scientist with the Deep Impact mission at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). "But no matter what happens, we'll observe the phenomena."

But we did stay in a Holiday In Express last night!!

Very reassuring statement made by JPL!!! Cool, better get our hard hats on.That will protect us.

They will far surpass us. They out number us. They don't give all there money to foreign countries nor do they give as much during times of disasters. With child labor they will out produce us.

I think I missed that one do you have a linky?

#135 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 21:54:33

Odd couple? Funny! Funny! Funny!
Hey, no wonder why they don't allow smoking on aircraft with all that Methane!! Boom!!! roll

GCN,
It doesn't have to be that large of an amount of stored energy to fracture it into bits, chunks or pieces in the case of a Nitrogen and Ogygen reservoir. It is just a theory and one that should be looked at before sending projectiles into the comet at 23,000mph. It also doesn't have to send a chuck this way. It could send a chunk into an asteroid and then the asteroid could be deflected this way. Once you have started billiard ball collisions who knows what might happen? It would be better to land on it then study the thing before slamming into it.

#138 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 17:00:50

Well, they do know methane does exist in them so the chance is not zero!

#139 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 15:38:54

I just want to see what if? They have not done calculations on this as far as what I have read so far!! You may be making it better not worse!! Who knows? :band:

#140 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 15:29:25

Just show me the magnitude of the explosion!!Whats the big deal then?

#141 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 15:17:03

It ain't no parinoia. Just a theory? What if? No sickness at all!!! Actually, I am certified sane by the FBI!! How about you?

#142 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 15:08:25

Because y is a crooked letter! Thats Y! Come on man give it up!!!

#143 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 15:03:15

Don't know untill I have the answer?

#144 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 15:00:17

Lets say the probe hits a gas pocket of this size. What size of explosion would this create? I know this sounds to big but it can scaled down to smaller sizes if needed!

#145 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 14:49:51

A neat theory about the deep impact mission!

#146 Re: Not So Free Chat » Exploding ball of methane » 2005-01-10 14:46:42

SOMEONE GOOD IN MATH CALCULATE THIS FOR ME.

Please calculate how much energy would be released by your exploding 5 cubic-mile ball of methane and oxygen. Also it is has ten millions times Earths atmospheric pressure to start with?

#147 Re: Not So Free Chat » Boiling Water? » 2005-01-09 22:16:04

So if you heated them up then seperated the molecules you could use them later after they cooled down.Yes?

#149 Re: Not So Free Chat » Boiling Water? » 2005-01-09 21:31:53

Suppose you forced them to stay together?

#150 Re: Not So Free Chat » Neutron star material » 2005-01-09 21:30:09

How about to the point of squishing one inside of another?
