Annex Mexico. Bring the prosperity and opportunity to them.
Why only Mexico ? CC, you're weakening, annex the whole planet
Funny you should say that.
That was some kind of humour :;):
Give the military a reason to traverse interplanetary space quickly, then you'll have advancements beyond belief.
Protecting the planet against huge meteorite strike is less important to the stategists than the ability to destroy the planet by themselves, as I can see.
Whatever the military skill is, it doesn't transcend economical and physical laws.
When large investments flow, army subcontractors know very well how to make big profits out of citizen taxes.
And with big profits, they're such an influent lobby that their fundings are almost vital to White House candidates.

Until we find a cheap / easy way to get of this rock, military space technology and space science technology will to a large extend be similiar (that was my point)... do I need to point out who launched Clementine ... it wasn't NASA.
Hydrogen propelled rockets are not good at military use.
Important is payload.
Wasn't the Army that sent a man to the Moon, nor would have wasted money on Voyagers or HST
or wonders the age of the Universe, the amount, the nature of black energy and so unstrategic tasks.
The Army would have focused on extremely expensive programs as an antinuke shield. Ok, you would have some kind of antinuke shield and some more technological jewels in the sky,
what for, when terrorists would have use civilian transport jets to accomplish their deadful goals ?

Israel's military manpower-1.5 million
http://www.exxun.com/Israel/h_ml.html]h … /h_ml.html
Israel's jewish population-3.6 million
.......I guess it's too much to ask that Kuwait be more like Isreal.
That means almost every 18/45 women and men of the country
That cannot make a 1.5 million army, unless all industrial, agriculture and service jobs should be replaced by foreigners.
and because of military effort and funding settlements in Cisjordania, Israel standarts of living has decreased, and shortens wellfare such as help to growing kids isolated mothers.
Even Israelis are not happy to pay so much for defense.
Annex Mexico. Bring the prosperity and opportunity to them.

As for the topic: in the end it doesn't matter if the fuding goes to NASA or USAF - if they cooperate better.
Something does matter : USAF will aim at military space.
I'm more interested in Science than in military technology, even if I 'm interested in technologies
(Here, we say : why clothing imbeciles with uniforms ?

If we choose a purely defensive posture we can reduce spending considerably, but we have to mean it. No peacekeeping, no nation building, no invading MidEast countries that look at us funny, no stopping ethnic cleansing on the other side of the world. Sitting amidst our bounty while the world burns.
Strategic decisions stand on analysis of the threats, not on a posture, I think.
The posture can determine a foreign country opinion wether USA is an ally or an ennemy, best is supposed to be having as many friends as possible.
There would be some credibility in what you say about peacekeeping if Rwanda genocide had been stopped by a military intervention.
Opinion here is that there is no war against terrorism, but war at terrorist nebulae that can't be won only by secret services, and some commando actions against clandestine training camp and facilities wherever they are, therefore is a need of a task force action even against the will of the harbouring country.
For that, you have total French and German cooperation.
Infiltrating islamist terrorist networks can be managed only by moderate muslims, and they will not make a great job if Western is to be seen as ennemy of Islam by supporting Israeli Palestine colonisation, or president or administration former supremely stupid use of words such as "crusade",
as a crusader is a barbaric ennemy of Islam invader.
Bush was promising again "star wars nuke shield" when 9/11 changed the aim of defense, but nowadays, a fast off-shore or a tourist plane can be a mass lethal weapon transporter.
I guess Europe wouln't not have launch independant GMS system if Echelon informations had been shared out of the Wasp Alliance, (USA + white states of former british empire),
the feeling that these Big Brother's watching us feeds antiamericanism.
Wonder if any NASA Mars conquest program will not dry out further Big Science programs.

DonPanic, there were a lot of T-72 tanks in Iraq during Gulf War I. Didn't you watch the news?
Yes, but there are angles a T-72, nor any tank can't reach to fire their guns when attacked by an A10, then the T-72 crew has to run fast away for its life
What level was the US close airsupport at the time? Very crucial, especially in Iraqi terrain.
Both you and DonPanic made this point and I'm surprized I didn't take it into consideration -- I'll blame my girlfriend and her excellant backrubs for that one (hey, I can't be right all the time!)
![]()
Seriously, combined air and ground forces are a powerful combination -- but again, useless without coordination, and that means training: lots and lots and lots, and it won't be safe either.
Don't know wether this was disinformation or not, but news here told the US command could track each of his tanks with yard precision when Iraqi command was totally blind, fooled whith E countermeasures
lO
One example that comes to mind is that of Marine tank crews that used the Vietnam era M-60 tank. They went up against the vastly superior Soviet T-72s and slaughtered them.
You're kidding.
Can't compare weapon at weapon that way. I'm quite sure the Russians didn't sold to Iraqis the latest hitech equiped tanks, such as having laser drive guns with ability to fire shells when tanks are in fast motion, as the french light wheeled tanks had.
And under total Coalition air superiority, T-72 were at first targets for fighter-bombers, A10, assault helicopters, so that M-60 had more opportunities to bypass calcinated T-72 wrecks than to fight one.

Don can be diminutive for Donald, or for Dominus, lord, as it is in Italy and Spain. I have no known italian or spanish ancestor.
Panic or panis was another name for millet, a cereal with tiny seeds that was largely cultivated in the middle age,
nowadays, it is given to birds, I often buy millet to feed Paris sparrows that live near my place, in wintertime.
Now, each day, some knock at my window and enter my appartment to claim for their meal.
In some slavic language, panic means virgin, a tchek told me, though I have no known slave ancestor.
May be DonPanic is "Lord of the Sparrows' Seeds"
Anyways, friends and family call me Pierrot, another name for sparrow

In the spaceship to Mars as well as for the first colony, there could be this type of water piped bioreactors,
divided in small units to be controled easily,
up to grow cyanobacterias or algas, shrimps, fishes,
that could also recycle team's wastes and air.
Carrying fish and shrimp eggs should be light and easy.
The spaceship could also carry inflatable sets of greenhouses,
much lighter than concrete ones.

A little bit boring for life on Mars, if Mars had lakes or seas, they chemicaly behaved like bleach.
Not any germ survive in bleach.
Therefore, if life ever existed on Mars, it must have been not RNA not DNA, a very alien form of life.

CC, I don't know what "Freedom" is, maybe a propaganda word
I just know which rights I want to fight forPlease define them.
Cobra is correct - - IF a free and stable Iraq is formed, it will undermine the surrounding Arab states.
Among rights, a homeland free from foreign dominators who come with bombers to tell me what is good or what is bad,
a homeland ruled for and by citizen fellowshipness, is that too tought to understand ?
Bush, who barred Chirac from his ranch in Texas last year, even indicated he was now ready to host the French leader. "If he wants to come and see some cows, he is welcome. He can come and see some cows," he said.
Chirac has near its own place splendid Charolais and Cantal cows he can look at without disguising itself with a cowboy hat...

Free speech, free assembly, freedom to not be grabbed from your home in the middle of the night and hauled away never to be seen again and freedom to walk down the street with you wife or girlfriend without fearing that some government thug is going to decide he wants to have her
Right now, where is freedom to walk down the street with you wife or girlfriend when mad kamikazees can blast at any time ?

That said, the war went incredibly well. It was an astounding success, none of the nightmare scenarios materialized and we rolled through within a month.
One of the nightmare scenario was that Iraq had kept these famous invisible WMD ???
The Iraq campaign will be studied in military texts not as a "quagmire" but as a successful early model for a new era in warfare.
WMD advocacing of Iraq War II will not remain in diplomatic study books. Maybe in disinformation texts ?
Bah ! I never had the least doubt about a lightning speed coalition victory. We had a "kit model" of such a disbalanced force report conflict when froggies fought Khadafi's annexion attempt on Chad, where his columns of armoured trucks have been guinea pigs for our clusters of >95% hit-the-target smart bombs. (about 10000 casualties in Lybian forces and auxiliaries, zero loss among french troops, much secrecy kept on this war to avoid any arab wrath) Not the kind of performance I'm proud of.
The Soviets took Berlin (and I could rage for hours about how we became an accomplice in a horrendous crime by allowing it)
Your rage about war crimes would be very selective if you don't include rage for years for Kholn, Braemen, Hamburg heavy phosphorus bombing by US and Royal Air Forces. 300000 dead civilians.

Certain neo-con elements severely miscalculated. They thought Iraq would react to liberation like France did, only to follow the WWII analogy Iraq isn't France. It's Germany. They weren't all that happy to see us. Even those that wanted regime change had reservations as well as a severely bruised sense of national pride
Neither ! in 1945, Germany was about to be "liberated" by soviet troops eager to retaliate,
therefore Germans saw surrendering to US troops as a relief.
Remember ? Soviets, not US, took Berlin.

I guess it's quite the same in other countries.

To tell the truth, we have some hot suburbs where Jews wearing a kippa and may be american tourists wouldn't be safe;

We are preparing D Day anniversary, and landing beaches are visited by a crowd of french citizens who are not in the mood for being hostile at USA.
Except for Bush for whom antiwar demonstrations are being prepared, for the general opinion here is that he stinks death.
