I think some of the water did freeze before it evaporated.
The question is, is it gone or sill there?

I think it is all conjecture. They seem to have a problem with visible data interpretation.
I do not think anyone would think that pure water could be forced to the surface of Mars. Lots of dust. Old formula that may apply, water + dust = Mud
Even if mud was able to make it to the surface an antifreeze agent would probably be involved due to extreme cold night time temperatures.
The white areas are more likely frost heave from residual moisture or salts left behind from evaporation.
If you read the text the results just ruled out pure or low viscosity water that common sense would almost rule out. So after reading it really didn’t say anything.
