#29076 Re: Human missions » Delta IV Heavy and Beyond » 2004-09-02 06:02:14

I believe the launch pad 36A was for atlas 2 and thats probably means lockheed owns the pad not Boeing. Just a guess on the ownership part.

As for the Delta V in combo or clustered to get to Mega ton of lift requirement. That has been on their drawing boards for or pretty much since the Presidents announcement of the vision in late January.

Delta or atlas rockets are good for cargo but would need to go though a complete redesign to be man rated and still the capsule portion of said rockets would still need to be developed. Since the last capsule designs were so long ago it would mean a redevopement and learning process, which means many years of added delay before they could ever be flown to LEO or to any other point of interest.

Ya and someone will find an tablet scribed with the teachings for other to follow of course in martian. The new martian tablets would usher in a new religous belief much like the teachings found in the Bible, the writings of Buda and many others the have followed. Each religous belief will even if we were to try to surpress them eventually come out no matter what. Simply going to Mars creates its own religion because we are all human. What shape it will take would be not in decades but in mulleniums.

No not a bussed worker but new aerospace facilities.

On the note of space policy Kerry has tended to list it as science and technology under his plan for America.

Who does he think he is kidding that that was the top topic of concern. This was the only listing of topics for Nasa or space.

NASA Town Hall quote:
This morning at a townhall meeting at Cape Canaveral, healthcare seemed to be the major concern on most peoples minds.

In the same token the available jobs need to be spread over all the states as well not just the less than a dozen that current have them.
I think a space port on the old Pease Airforce base at lattitude 40 plus in NH would be a good place to launch to the ISS.

Sort of like the job corps of the depression that help cut many a highway accross this nation as well as the trials though the mountains for viewing spectaclular views from the top of the world as it were.

Farming For The Future
http://www.spacedaily.com/news/spacetravel-04zv.html

Quote:
But for future long-duration missions and colonies on the Moon or Mars, scientists believe a life support system with a biological component (such as plants)- called a "bioregenerative life support system" - has several benefits.

"If you continually resupply and deliver commodities like food, that will become much more costly than producing your own food," says Ray Wheeler, plant physiologist at Kennedy Space Center's Space Life Sciences Lab. "You can achieve some autonomy with bioregenerative capability."

But developing such a system isn't as simple as planting some fruits, vegetables and wheat in space or on distant planets.

All the more reason to do more on the ISS with this in mind for future use for the journeis still yet to come.

For any corporation wants to build and launch there version of the next possible CEV for Nasa they need infrastucture to do so. This goes for xprize contestants as well getting into the game.

Here is a thought for the xprize and for any company that would want to build and launch rockets here in the US. If possible purchase the pad 36A complex that launches the atlas 2 rockets. It just launched the last one and will basically sit idle and be used for spare parts to fix any issues with 36B launch pad.

In a failed economic system Items of value such as the precious metal with have value only when considered against the barter trade from others since curency will be of little or no value when that has occurred. There are other items that will also hold there value, Land for farming and food production, fuels -coal, wood, oil, gas and so on. Each will have an economic meaning based on the surounding area to which you live an the hardship to which the individual is to face.

#29092 Re: Terraformation » Making stars! - Turning gas gaints into stars. » 2004-09-01 05:46:02

So how would one get the nukes to jupiter and then plan to what drill to the interior to plant them not to meantion compress the hole that was dug to get them there in order to maintain the down would pressure such that when the nukes are detonated that they just do not blow out the plug for the hole that was dug to get them there in the first place.

But maybe you thought was to have them go into nuclear melt down rather than blowing up, that changes what may happen especially if some are saved, a few for when the core temp does come close to that point for fussion to be nearly able to begin such that when there are then detonated that it is given that extra push to begin the fussion process.

The concept of thrmal nuclear melt down could be also applied to mars to help in creating a magnetic field by forming a liquid core as well.

Maybe the then President of the Nation could and probably should have called it a dead heet, one needing a new date to recast votes to finally decide who actually one.

I know I saw and heared much of the news reports of who was winning that night in Florida and was very up set that the media was in fact steering the election in the direction that they wanted by announcing before polls were even close projected winners of course by over exaggerating the amounts on the margin of straw poll votes counted.

The part that really bothers the most is the fact that all the registered voter standing in line at poll close time were turn away from casting there legal votes to be made.

Some more truth seeking from the GAO. They are seeking Details from NASA Employees in this Agency Audit. The investigation is reaching out to NASA employees who might have concerns about the agency's spending practices or its billing interactions with contractors, but are afraid to speak up. Maybe a lattle early to cheer but if it leads to lower cost in doing space flights keep digging.

Which brings us to the Aldridge commissions report and of what is truely meant by changing Nasa facilities to the FFRDC and making more privitzation a predominent part of Nasa's doing business. But thats another thread all together.

#29096 Re: Human missions » Post central for information on CEV 2 - ...continue here. » 2004-08-31 20:01:18

There is a lot of truth to the points that you make in that the companies in the business have slowly eroded to just a few big ones. Which have swallowed many of the small fishes to get that big. By staying in cohouts with the government and Nasa they have only grown bigger and more costly for all that would want to be the next space explorer. Let alone a colonist excluding the few with the cash to become tourist.

#29097 Re: Human missions » Rocket Business model for shuttle delta IV atlasV - and others good or bad » 2004-08-31 19:47:13

So from the cheap heavy lift thread one can now based on the quantity of engines per stage also be of poor or over kill in design. Also if the destination only requires a limit amount of payload then a much larger or capable one is also over kill. Both senerios are at best poor for profit making but also may mean a bad business model as well.
Unless the rocket is built with varying stages lengths with all the same base diameter this style of rocket choices are not good business.

#29098 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » New Planets! » 2004-08-31 12:18:26

Same topic as a few lines down in extasolar planets. The importance is the size which had been leaked a few days ago of only being near neptune or uranus size about 10+ Earths to 15 os so. The main part of the web broadcast dealt with more of the logistics of who found what when with official research papers and referees.
In terms of planetary search life becomes more practical as the systems to which are of simular ratios to ours.

#29099 Re: Human missions » Kerry's position on space - any one know were Kerry stands » 2004-08-31 12:02:59

The electronic voting machine I believe does not record the name of the individual and unless a record of when you enter a specific booth then there is no correlation between the votes that you would cast and mine would be possible. So simply a paper printed with a scan able bar that records that machines votes cast can be scanned later for the purpose of a recall.
Something like a check out slip from the new electronic cash registers.

#29100 Re: Interplanetary transportation » Da Vinci in the Running - Let the Space Race Begin! » 2004-08-31 11:04:38

The Canadian government has not yet given its stamp of approval to the da Vinci Project's rocket launch in Kindersley, putting the Oct. 2 liftoff in some jeopardy.

http://www.canada.com/saskato....51201c1

Question, is this a privately owned company or is it a canadian sponsored vehicle? What has canada invested in this project such that they would even have a say?
