Hey all, I recently wrote an article that's been posted to the front page of Kuro5hin named Synaesthesia - union of the senses that might interest some of you. Synaesthesia is basically a trait in which people have their senses interconnected in a persistent manner, e.g. seeing colours to different tones, feeling tactile sensations associated with particular tastes.

Wow, great article.  When I started reading it I was thinking about how difficult it would be to experimentally prove the existence such an abstract nature of the mind.  Psychologists never fail to amaze me with the ingenious and often simple experiments they come up with.   The essay reminded me of a girl in one of my creative writing classes awhile back that would always associate language to colors.  She'd say things like "this part of the story is purple" or something along that line.  I always thought it was odd to critique a story like that but in hindsight I wonder if she might have been somekind of synaesthete.

I'm a bit crazy... well, certifibably, but whatever. So your article interested me quite a bit. Can't say that I have synaesthesia, though. 'fraid I'm not that cool.

Got into it over the weekend, and it was a very interesting take on the singularity event. It kind of sums up much of what I have been thinking in relation to some of our discussions in the intelligent aliens thread.

More related to this thread though, I have seen various research into the effects of frequency on mood- leading to anger or hapiness- or even pain.
Not quite what this experience is, but it is along the same lines.

Yeah clark, I'm actually reading that (saw a link on /. the other day)! It's quite interesting (moreso than Atlas Shrugged, at least).

I wish my laptop wasn't giving me a fit, though. I'd read it on my bed, and would probably be done by now.
