Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

The NewMarsMember * gmail.com portal is open for business.

There was/were one incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning. No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.

I am looking for new members who are blessed with enough time and energy to participate for some time into the future.

We have extended an invitation to members of the North Houston chapter of National Space Society to help RobertDyck with his preparations for the Large Ship presentation on March 12th.  Just drop a note to the portal address given in the first line above.

RobertDyck is scheduled to deliver a presentation on Large Ship to the North Houston NSS on March 12th. Large Ship is to carry 1,060 people to Mars in a manner that is safe, comfortable, reliable and rewarding for all. This is a tall order. Tune into the Zoom meeting on March 12th if you want to see how RobertDyck pulls it off. Visit northhoustonspace.org to find the link to the Zoom at 2 PM Houston time.

GW Johnson has extended an invitation to readers of his ExRocketman blog, to visit NewMars. If anyone is interested in opening an account, just drop a note to the portal.

GW Johnson is scheduled to deliver a presentation to the North Houston NSS on April 9th. This is a follow up to the Large Ship presentation. Dr. Johnson will cover propulsion and navigation of Large Ship. Dr. Johnson is intending to drive to Houston to give the presentation in person.  This is an opportunity for Mars Society members who live in or near Houston to meet GW Johnson.

There are nearly 8 billion people on Earth these days, and several billion have access to the Internet.  This forum is accessible to ** every ** Earth citizen with Internet access.  We ** know ** the site is of interest to spammers! Hopefully it is of interest to others who want to use their time more productively.

We have 11,050 freshly refurbished User Id's ready for new members, and Id's through  18,344 are waiting for finishing touches.  We have run out of Usernames that may be eligible for upgrade for use by "real" members. We are halfway through a campaign to repair posts that contain artifacts that prevent proper display.  Scan of 77,000 posts out of 77,000 were completed and the end point was found. Procedures to revise posts containing unneeded text are in place.  Code to perform updates is finished and tested. It is waiting for final approval.

Approval to proceed IS granted, the project will resume in December, 2021.

Equipment to be used for the update series was tested and found ready to begin work on December 1st. The process will last through July of 2022 and well into August.  Posts 1-25800 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/01

A new schedule is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 17300

We have multiple initiatives underway that can use assistance, or you can create your own initiative.

The author of a concept for a 17 person expedition to Mars has specifically requested participation by peers to help.

A proposal for an 8 member expedition is in review.

RobertDyck could use assistance of all kinds in development of the Large Ship proposal. There are three animation/drawing systems in play.
Fusion 360 is a version of commercial software by AutoDesk that is available for student non-commercial use. It requires a beefy computer.
Blender is a free animation package that includes drawing capability.

The Large Ship project may stimulate spinoff activities, such as a 3D Virtual Experience. Volunteers are needed. See Recruiting for details.

Large Ship has split into two versions. The original is a single rotating passenger vessel. The competitor is a counter rotating design.
Large Ship has also spawned a new topic dedicated to design and construction of an on-Earth Analog facility for living human beings.
Large Ship has also spawned a new topic dedicated to engineering design and construction on Earth of a flight ready prototype.
Large Ship has also spawned a topic dedicated to design and deployment of a Gravity Remediation facility for space travelers.

The My Hacienda topic is in need of 7,800 individuals to populate a virtual community to simulate self-sustainability on Mars

The subject of abundant energy supply for the population of Earth (and Mars in due time) is under discussion in the Nuclear Power is Safe topic.  It seems reasonable (to me at least) to suppose all fossil fuel power stations can be replaced with modular nuclear fission packages quite rapidly if the people of Earth decide that is a good idea.  It appears the leadership of China thinks that is a good idea for their nation.

A book was recommended for discussion: Beyond Oil and Gas: The Methanol Economy by Olah, Goeppert and Prakash
Abundant energy from modular fission reactors is continuing to receive attention.

A book was recommended for discussion: "Plentiful Energy" (about fission reactors).

Read Post #2 of this topic for procedures to apply for membership.  Mention specific assistance you wish to provide.

For existing registered members who have lost your password ... If you remember the email address you used to register, you can request a recovery email at that address.  If you no longer have the email available (as could happen over 20+ years) just write to this email address. Your request will be forwarded to SpaceNut, who has the tools available to assist as needed.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects.  We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions.  We don't need more folks in that specialty.  We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Posts 1-27000 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/02

A new schedule is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 20500

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects.  We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions.  We don't need more folks in that specialty.  We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

The NewMarsMember * gmail.com portal is open for business.

There was/were no incoming traffic item(s) at the Portal this morning.

The next Zoom meeting(s) is/are scheduled for (Today) Sunday.  We will be using the Professional Mars Society account.
Note: The Mars Society Zoom account is reserved for 7 PM Pacific Time on the Second Sunday of each month.

Time for early meeting: 19:00 UTC <<== No host is booked. If you would like to see this meeting in action, say so.

Time for project meeting: To be determined as needed

Time for Early US/Canada/Mexico meeting: 1:00 UTC Monday <<== kbd512 is host for this event. This is an all-subjects open meeting.

NightOwl meeting: 2:00 UTC Monday. This is 1 hour into the Evening Zoom, and potentially of interest to Hawaii members.

Posts 1-28500 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/02

A new schedule is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 25000

Posts 1-29700 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/02

A new schedule is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 29000

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects.

No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.

I am looking for new members who are blessed with enough time and energy to participate for some time into the future.

The next Zoom meeting(s) is/are scheduled for (Next) Sunday.  We will be using the Professional Mars Society account.
Note: The Mars Society Zoom account is reserved for 7 PM Pacific Time on the Second Sunday of each month.
April 10th ** is ** the Second Sunday, so the NewMars Zoom will be limited to two hours.

On March 13th, the Seattle Chapter kindly invited NewMars Zoom attendees to join their meeting.  I was impressed by the depth and quality of the discussions, and hope we may be invited to future meetings.

Request: Please try to connect to the Zoom session shortly after it opens, as a courtesy to the host.

Update as of 2022/02/22 -- Scheduling of Attendance

Request: Please post (or email) your intention to attend a Zoom session, as a courtesy to the host.

The first Zoom meeting for NewMars members was held Monday November 8th, 2021 at 1 AM UTC.  It lasted for well over 4 hours.

We have 11,199 freshly refurbished User Id's ready for new members, and Id's through  18,344 are waiting for finishing touches.

Posts 1-31200 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/02

A quality assurance run is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 31200

Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

Special item for SpaceNut ....

In a recent post in another topic, you pointed out the YouTube video of the recent presentation by RobertDyck about Large Ship, given March 12th to the North Houston chapter of the National Space Society.

You suggested there might be a way to add a comment to the video to invite viewers to visit NewMars.  I'll investigate that tomorrow.

However, there ** is ** something else that might be done ...

The presentation might be advertised by Executive Director James Burk, in one of his Mars Society media ventures.

To my knowledge, this is the first time any member of the NewMars forum has done anything outside the forum itself.

We have another similar outside event coming up on April 9th.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects.

No outgoing message(s) was/were sent.

I am looking for new members who are blessed with enough time and energy to participate for some time into the future.

GW Johnson has extended an invitation to readers of his ExRocketman blog, to visit NewMars. If anyone is interested in opening an account, just drop a note to the portal.

GW Johnson is scheduled to deliver a presentation to the North Houston NSS on April 9th. This is a follow up to the Large Ship presentation given by RobertDyck on March 12th. Dr. Johnson will cover propulsion and navigation of Large Ship. Dr. Johnson is intending to drive to Houston to give the presentation in person.  This is an opportunity for Mars Society members who live in or near Houston to meet GW Johnson.

We have 11,199 freshly refurbished User Id's ready for new members, and Id's through  18,344 are waiting for finishing touches.

Posts 1-32700 have been updated. Current date in repair is 2004/03

A quality assurance run is underway, to scan to find any posts missed during the first pass. Current verified/certified post is: 32700
