Re: IQ and Space Colonisation

The state took these children away – then used their parents’ low IQ scores to keep them apart

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 … are-oregon

In the US, IQ scores are often a key factor in gauging parenting ability. Critics say the assessments are misguided and unfair – and the results can be devastating

Psychological evaluations, which typically include IQ tests, can be issued at the request of DHS by a judge if a parent isn’t willing to voluntarily participate. Once they are approved, a caseworker contacts a therapist on the parents’ behalf and provides parents’ records. In these cases, DHS pays the therapist.
All of this might happen against a parent’s wishes. “People who have gotten into trouble with CPS are not dying to get a psych eval,” said Dr Eric Morrell, the psychologist who conducted Gibson’s evaluation and typically receives around $1,600.
Sometimes, CPS hears of these cases through anonymous calls or tips to a hotline. Other times, a police officer or hospital staff might alert DHS.

Re: IQ and Space Colonisation

In general the idea that IQ scores are a useful generalized measure of intelligence as a personal characteristic strikes me as silly and obviously wrong—it's maybe as useful as the SAT, which is itself not really that useful.

I don't think there's a single thing that you could call "general intelligence"—I'm pretty confident that ChatGPT would ace an IQ test, for example, just like it aced the bar exam.

Intelligence could be described as a synonym for aptitude, but you wouldn't say someone has a generalized aptitude, that doesn't really make sense. And regardless, hard work is usually more important than aptitude anyway.

Engineers and hard scientists are generally pretty skeptical of the measurements and studies coming out of the social sciences. Good social scientists will also express a healthy skepticism and tell you that their studies are not bulletproof but that they're doing their best to study something complicated but important. In the case of IQ, even social scientists have generally moved on.

As far as outer space is concerned, I'm about as interested in someone's IQ as I am in their grade in pre-calc. If they're a good at what they do and a good member of a team, that will come across from their work and in how they comport themself. Standing next to this, IQ has nothing to add and should be neither a gate nor a recommendation.

Re: IQ and Space Colonisation

Although I understand why they were done, if you were put in charge of a company village, you owned a colony let's say would you not be in a position of trust and liability to protect the Mars working environment of that village. Let's you had strong authority as its political leader you were responsible for the health of all animals, you were in charge lets say of keeping the robots and machines moving, you had responsibility for the safety of all people and you knew more people might want to come not just on a tourist trip to snap a few vacation pictures but to interact and living among the community you are responsible for would you not want people screened, mentally and physically. The US Army Classification Test (AGCT) is one of many, other nations had their own tests historically running parallel with research for attempting the assessment of intelligence, some tests checked spatial awareness, others reading ability and math, other exams targeted aptitude, the Army had need for people in chemistry, medical devices, jamming radio communication with newly drafted or new young recruits need for increasingly complicated skills, some tests were verbal response of words or an oral spoken exam and some non-verbal written logic tests or tests on hand-signs.

Personally I believe the more important thing to screen for is the 'Danger Personality Type' than a genius, some very smart people turned out to be killers and our planet Earth has seen all types of tyrant, the 'Fascist' dictator, the 'Communist' dictator. In our modern time Lukashenko, Putin, the Kim family of North Korea, al-Baghdadi, bin Laden, some dictators can provide some level of resource and wealth for people but greatly oppress with fear and terrorizing religion police, there are cult leaders and autocratic government for example oil-rich Middle Eastern dictatorships these types of personality of people can cause destruction with their fanatical way of life they also perhaps display some anti-human cold narcissist psychopathic trait which might be screened by other human or maybe even have artificial intelligence help interview them which might pick up on subtle signs like breathing, stare, blinking, body language.

This sounds more like an area of immigration, borders, police to keep the wrong person away from a community.

Some people might not be 'bad' but have some type of disorder, they could have been abusing alcohol and drugs and have other addictions, they might cause destruction because of their state of mind they may for example be paranoid, or biopolar or delusional.
