Yes... Good point, but this one looks so bright? It's too big to be an artifact, i think.

It wasn't that long ago we were http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/gallery/ … .HTML]here looking at those hills so far away.

Re: Spirit & Opportunity *7* - ...continuing...

Heehee, REB... Yesterday, i went through the thread S&O *1* and i was thinking the same thing. Everybody wondering wether Spirit would be able to even get near the hills to see some details, let alone climb them...

It's a truly impressive mission, what? Boyboyboy...

*Terrific pic.  Probably the info shared in the caption is "old news," but on the off-chance it isn't...

::EDIT::  Just saw 2 articles at spacedaily.com:  Opportunity is 11 meters into Endurance.  Spirit is checking out the "Wooly Patch."

Why does that pic look like a still photograph of running water?

*Yes, it is easy to imagine water trickling through there like a little brook.  smile

I am already very impatient for a fossil hunt.

*Wow, that is quite a shot!  On first look it's almost disorienting.  cool

All those rocks.  Rocks, rocks, rocks, rocks...!  It's wonderful.

The slightly mounded area in the left upper corner of the pic is cool.

What is this?  New texture in Endurance:

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/opport … ...0M1.JPG

Looks very fine, shinny and firm -- a little like the "Mud" around the lander.  This new surface texture can also be seen in the latest Forward Hazcam images.

First glimpse over the top by Spirit:

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/spirit … ...0M1.JPG

This shot is part of a nice series -- would be nice to see them joined.  Also, lots of neat outcrops -- perhaps Spirit will get her share of center stage time.

Re: Spirit & Opportunity *7* - ...continuing...

Spirit will hit the limelight allright.
That first glimpse looks very, very promising. Expect Spirit to do some 'Royal panoramas,' once it is at Lookout Point.

I see Spirit's travel as a true Odyssey. Opp. had flat land to traverse, Spirit had to negociate much harder terrain.

(Both rovers are doing an unique mission, don't get me wrong, the climbing in and out of craters by Opp. was definitely very helpful to make an educated guess about Sp. chances to scale those hills. Perfect cooperation!)

Does that mud look slick or what?
I kind of see that same glossy look to the dunes themselves.

Re: Spirit & Opportunity *7* - ...continuing...

Ever wonder what the "Monument" (Rock Pile) on the top of West Spur looks like?  Spirit is now so close that she could spit on it!

http://qt.exploratorium.edu/mars/spirit … ...0M1.JPG

I still wanta see over the top -- see the "Cave" area and vista.

Re: Spirit & Opportunity *7* - ...continuing...

Dunno whether this has been reported yet on this forum, but in the last 24 hours the spectroscopic measurements, daily reports, site maps, and other goodies for Spirit's first 30 sols have been made available on the WWW at NASA's Planetary Data System using a new "Analyst's Notebook" user interface. The URL being advertised is:

     http://pds-geosciences.wustl.edu/mera/] … .edu/mera/

However, when I went there I was automatically taken to this site:

     http://anserver1.eprsl.wustl.edu]http://anserver1.eprsl.wustl.edu

The first Opportunity data release will be later this month.
