Were they the Uranium reactors, or the Plutonium kind?
Politicans on both ends of the spectrum have always put re-election over getting things done. The authors of the Constitution didn't put term limits on congressmen because they thought that normal people would run for office, get their bills passed, and then return to their normal lives.
I thought the Koreans were pissed because we stopped oil shipments. Weren't the nuclear reactors built before the treaty in 1994 and then frozen after the agreement?
Anyway, we must stop the North Koreans from building weapons in any way possible. It would be catastrophic to have the South Koreans and the Japanese have to deal with that problem.
I have Dr. Zubrin's book, and it was really great. Thanks for going into more detail about how to make the plastics. I'll get all of these sources together and start looking at aproaches to take on this project.
Thanks Robert!
Okay. Let's keep Saddam out of this for a while so we can focus our thoughts on Korea.
To relate this back to our base arguement, I'm sure you're saying to yourself, "yeah, illegal Mexicans start businesses, work at unpleasant jobs, and become productive citizens. Why should we deport these Iranians in California if we aren't deporting the Mexicans we come across?"
Why should one wrong make it right to commit even more wrongs? Why should not deporting a few Mexicans make it right to not deport a few Iranians?
To my understanding, those Iranians weren't deported, and I guess we're not going to deport them at all (thanks to our "friends" in Washington). So I don't see where you're getting with this. You didn't want the Iranians deported, they weren't, and we let them and many other illegals stay in this country.
Keep in mind, we do deport a LOT of illegals every year. This was a rare exception, I'm sure because of the extensive media coverage.
I would be willing to work with Saddam if we were 100% sure he had stopped his nuclear research program. The fact is, he could still have it running, or possibly have it in hiding right now, and as long as we haven't found his work, he can still make progress on it. Remember, experts say that Saddam could have had a nuclear weapon in 3 months with the right material, and that estimate was made in AUGUST.
As for South Korea, I see no need to kissy up to them. They love us. If it weren't for our troops in the DMZ, they would have been overrun by the North Koreans decades ago.
I think we need to get China on our side at the moment, and get the groundwork laid in Japan to get the area ready for a possible invasion.
What ignorance? I just finished telling you that I have no bias whatsoever against hispanics! It was a FACT about living California that I told you. Don't get mad at me because I exposed the way things are, and the way they SHOULDN'T be.
I agree. And I think we have the world's support for not just a unilateral action here, but for a coalition strike.
If I were running things, I'd move some of our troops and air/sea units out of the Persian gulf and ready them near the Korean pennisula, and build up some more troops in our bases in Japan. We have the capability to fight in two theatres at the same time, so I'd just as soon move those troops to Korea while we're waiting on the results from the UN weapons inspection in Iraq.
I would also do some sweet-talking to the Chinese right about now, just to be safe...
You guys have so little faith in the American system of government. If Switzerland is so good, why aren't you living there? I'm tired of everyone riding America's ass about everything, and then sitting there in your New York apartment enjoying all of this country's benefits. And, contrary to your paranoid dilusions, the American public does have a great deal to do with our politics, considering that the average person can run for elected office (hell, an Austrian immigrant is probably going to run for California governor in 2004, and the Senate majority leader was a surgeon).
Aquakah, I could swear that you said earlier you were Brittish.
Sorry if you feel hurt when I question you, especially after all of the long conversations we've had with other people about questioning media sources. It would be hypocritcal of me to not do so in this case.
If you say you've worked in a defense contracting facility, I have no choice but to believe you.
We've spent enough time squabbling about each other's credentials, so let's get back to the business at hand.
Let's get this topic geared toward North Korea, and in particular the statements about expelling UN inspectors, and reactivating the dormant nuclear facilities there.
I'm sure the Californian economy wouldn't die if they have to wash their own dishes and do their own lawn work.
you make me sick.
Alt, don't get pissed off about reality. The fact is, SOME Californians use illegal immigrant labor, ususally Mexican, to do things like housework and lawnwork. It's a fact that I can drive a pickup into a town in Southern California, and pull up to a group of people sitting on the corner, stick 2 fingers out the window, and 2 people jump into the back of my truck to go work at my house. My uncle did it ON ACCIDENT for crying out loud... he lives in Canada, and he was driving through Riverside, California and when he stopped at an intersection, this group of hispanics on the corner all stood up ready to jump in the back.
I'm not being a racist, and I don't have any bias against those of Mexican heritage. I, myself, have Mexican relatives in Southern California. I'm just telling you the way things are in this country, and I'm not here to sugar-coat it for you.
Oh... as long as we don't have to prove our credentials... I'm the UN's chief UNICEF ambassador to Indo-China. And I play golf with President Bush on weekends.
Soph, if you're really just a 35 year old engineer who works in a defense contracting facility, I'm sure we'd all forgive you for faking that you were 20 years younger than you really are. If it makes to feel good to pretend that you're a really smart sophomore, more power to you...
Cool idea... I'll check it out. I haven't checked you profile, but do you do this for a living?
I do play an important role in politics. I vote for national leaders and congressmen, governors (who 40% of the time will run for President at some point), and Senators (who run during the other 60%).
And SWITZERLAND is better than the US? Hmmm... I remember why I don't get along with Europeans very well...
What do you think about using Martian soil to build some of our first large structures on Mars?
I'm using for reference Chapter 7 of Bob Zubrin's The Case For Mars, if anyone wanted to know what I was talking about...
Any comments or ideas?
Do you guys know how I could test the feasibility of building a Martian-clay structure like the kind Bob Zubrin suggested in The Case For Mars? I think utilizing the elements already on Mars for building is a great idea, and I'd like to test it. (I wish that one of the research stations would try this idea).
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
You're really puting too much of the blame about this holiday on ALL Christians. It was the Pope who decided to have the holiday at this time of year, for the simple point of enticing the Pagans to join; same thing with making the sabbath a Sunday instead of Saturday. The pope also let preists rape little boys for centuries without any repercussion whatsoever.
I'm a Protestant, and because I don't accept the Pope's authority, I hope you will stop ragging on me now. I can accept and was surprised to know that most of our Christmas traditions were Pagan in origin. Thank you for the educational moment, Cindy. No offense intended towards Pagans.
And as for guessing why I'm wrong, why doesn't somebody just tell me? I got out of Alt's little quote that there are 3 sides to everything, and rarely are they always the same. I was 110% sure that my beliefs were where the 3 intersected. A witty answer to an overly mystical question.
I'm sure the Californian economy wouldn't die if they have to wash their own dishes and do their own lawn work. I'm going to see if Tom Tancredo will run for President in 2008...
And we do "overlook" a few illegals, but deporting the ones we find more than makes up for it. We send the Cubans back when we save them from drowning in their rafts, and we have a more difficult time catching Mexicans because of the length of our unguarded border. In this new day and age of terrorism, I'm positive that the INS will begin cracking down on EVERYONE that shouldn't be here.
To take your word about working in a defense contracting facility at 15 years old would be even more nieve than believing that my government was telling me the truth about drugs and our war on terror.
Who says they campaign to us? Even with Montana's 5(?) electoral votes, I believe Bush Sr. was the only President to make a campaign stop there back in 1992, at least that I saw or heard about, I was a small child when it happened.
However, in New York you have candidates going there all the time. Without the electoral college, people from my state and many like mine would be easily outvoted by the CITIES in other states, and our voice would be drowned out. Your vote doesn't count less than mine, because you have 6 times the electoral votes that I do. Without it, there would be no incentive for candidates to campaign and make promises to me to get my vote.
It's times like this that I want to seceed from the Union. Perish the thought... long live the electoral college.
Come on, let's get back to legalizing drugs and stop trolling.
I'll concede the point to you, soph. I would never use crawlers for construction, but I would consider it for exploration missions where treads may not be able to go. After all, it's better to go slower than average over smooth terrain with a crawler than to go even slower with a rover over rocky terrain. Good call.
I still don't care. I am enjoying my christian and heathen holiday, and I really don't want to have to play Alt's silly games about guessing why I'm wrong, or thinking about Pagan menstrual fluid.
Shhhh! I'm trying to hear Jingle Bells on my transistor radio. What kind of Christmas songs do Pagans listen to? Oh... that's right... they don't have any.
If we didn't weigh my vote against yours, my vote would be forgotten. There would be no reason for anyone campaigning for office to make promises to me because my state's vote and its neigbors are less in number than the city you live in, soph.
I would have no role in politics whatsoever, and my votes and thoughts and ideas would be augmented from the rest of the populace.
With the electoral college, my state's 8 electoral votes really count. Even though your state has 3x the people mine does, your electoral vote is only about 2.5x larger. It all balances out.
When did I slap a liberal term on you? I though socialite was someone who...oh! I'll bet you though I meant you were a Rockefeller type New York socialite. I'm sorry if I raped that term.
And does taking a tour with your school count as working at a defense contracting facility? I don't know of many 15 year olds who get the chance to work on our nation's fighting machines.
And I'm not a Colorado farmboy, either. That term was exaggerated. My dad is the UPS manager.
