I don't think nuclear winter is an answer to our problems. But I do agree about the weapons. The earth needs to be allot more stable politically and socially before we start any missions.
But there is no reason we can't do them both. Don't put all your eggs in one basket as it were. I think both missions could feed off each other. I for one am not thinking of mars as a mission, rather, a new place to live.
I do think that it's kind of dumb that there is so much intrest into the subject, but we are all at the mercy of NASA. I think if enough interest can be generated thru the mars society and what not, NASA might take more notice. Or even other governments.
gotcha.
any idea what the timeline would be for that? ie, What would we send first? At what point would minning and all that jazz be a good idea?
Well no one said the plan was perfect. Take a small amount of dirt, treat it, and then when the plant matter dies, and use it as fertilizer for more. Will take a while in the start, but that's food your making.
It seams really simple, but that's what always gets screwed up in the end if you ask me.
Why go to mars?
Because it is something new. I am a tech of sorts, and building and maintain a station like that would be amazing. I love to tinker and think. The ability to start from scratch and make something that is truly unique and great. Just to be a part of that. That?s why :>
And it would be very cool.
isn't most of the mars atmosphere CO2? Back in the day when I was doing grade 7 science, in my little brain, this thinking immerged.
Plants use CO2 and change it into oxygen. I breath oxygen. If I wanted to breath, I plant allot of plants.
It's not teraforming the planet, but say, a dome or base. Build it on the ground, have patches of mars sticking out of the floor and build a sort of CO2 exchange device to give the residence clean air.
This would also no doubt yield invaluable information on future efforts.
And give you a nice garden.
Hey guys. Just introducing my self here. I am 19 years old, and I am currently studding electronics in Calgary Alberta.
I have been in love with mars since (no laughing) I started playing doom in my pre-teen years. ahhhhh..... battling demons on the Martian moons.
I am really exited to get into the mars program anyway I can. anyway, that's me, here I am.
I agree. A sea colony sounds like a great idea, but it does not have much to do with mars. There maybe some ideas that would (sorry for this) surface in the sea colony, but there is much more that could be done and be more helpful.
First off, I am brand new here, so take it easy
I don't know if this has been discussed here before or not, but here it goes.
After we send a manned mission to mars, what then? what kind of plans do you guys think would be feasible for colonization and populating the red planet?
