#76 Re: Human missions » A Fleet Plan - Shuttles, OSPs, and beyond » 2003-02-11 21:41:00

Until someone commits themselves to a development program, SCRAM jet based launch vehicles will be a long way off.

On the Discovery Channel, I heard that some dudes (and chicks) in Australia are working on a SCRAM jet engine. I think it was for use in the atmosphere though, not as an engine to launch with.

#77 Re: Not So Free Chat » Man never reached the Moon!? » 2003-02-09 22:36:03

I still think the funniest thing about the moon hoax is that NASA isn't stupid enough to make as many mistakes as the hoaxers claimed they did. Damn, it would be harder to friggin fake the landings than actually go to the moon in the first place. There were too many people on the project to get them all to keep the secret, so NASA would've had to con them. That would be bloody insane.

#79 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » nanotech and carbon nanotubes - a big future » 2003-02-08 13:03:06

Is it true that CNTs can create an electric current if water flows through them?
I think I read something like that in a magazine, but there was alot of opposition to the idea.

#80 Re: Pictures of Mars » Favorite Sci-Fi Movie? - Blade Runner for me. . . » 2003-02-04 22:35:47

My favourite sci-fi movie would have to be erm... I dunno, I'll be unoriginal and say "The Matrix"

oh BTW, the big battle scene at the end of LOTR 2 is filmed in a quarry thats about 5-10 km in a straight line across the hills, about South Eastish from where I live. Also, Rivendell is is about 10-30 minutes drive away from my house, near this campsite thing. smile

Edit: Welcome Luis!

#81 Re: Terraformation » Venus / Mars » 2003-02-04 21:55:53

i think mars is the better choice.

Yeah, Mars is a hell of alot easier to terraform. Unlike Venus, we can land on the surface, which should make the process easier than terraforming in orbit.

#84 Re: Not So Free Chat » Shuttle Crash!!! - NASA TV. » 2003-02-01 13:42:28

Hey,

just woke up and damn, thats very pissing off.

But, I believe that this accident will have some sort of positive rebound for the space programme.

Me being the optimist.  smile

#85 Re: Human missions » Mars: A business plan - lets get at it » 2003-01-31 16:53:48

So, um, how do you go about making a business plan?

#86 Re: Not So Free Chat » Leaglize drugs - say what u want » 2003-01-28 15:59:14

I talked to my marijuana user friends, and my father (a former user) this past week and they all said that they needed more pot to get high the longer they smoked.

Comments?   ???

Thats very true.

As you get more addicted you need more to get a high.
I don't know the technicalities of it, but I think its because your body is getting used to the drug and is used to running high for most of the time, so you need more of the drug to get the same feeling. Its the same with all recreational drugs and thats why its harder to give up after you have been an addict for an extended period of time.

I think thats what Josh or Aquakah was meaning when they said it makes you less tolerant.

#87 Re: Interplanetary transportation » Nuclear Propulsion - The best way for space travel » 2003-01-27 21:09:34

Hey peoples, just got back, been away for a few days at this awesome music festival. Damn the boards have been busy...

Anyway, back to the point,

What exactly is Biomass?

#88 Re: Not So Free Chat » Ancient Chinese Fleet Landed in America » 2003-01-22 17:37:36

Hmm, I just saw an article in the newspaper. It looks like they are trying to say the Chinese landed in New Zealand first too.
It's got a picture of what one Maori chief used as a cooking pot: A big Chinese bell.

#91 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Human Evolution - :\  description far too large to fit  :/ » 2003-01-19 23:53:11

Would Nano-tech be able to counter the negative effects of increased/decreased gravity?

#92 Re: Mars Society International » The X-Prize - Could MS go for this? » 2003-01-19 23:01:17

I was watching a discovery programme about rockets and I was wondering, Would we be able to go for the X-prize.

The X-prize is $10 mil to the first private group to put a craft into space with 3 people in it.

Would it be too difficult?
It would be good advertising for a Mars Mission and $10 mil would be quite nice...

#94 Re: Planetary transportation » maglev - long distance travel » 2003-01-18 00:14:51

What about changing the voltage through the superconductor? Would that change the speed that the Maglev is travelling at?

#95 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » Is there any point in wondering? - Isn't the question answered, after all? » 2003-01-13 16:13:01

I've thought about that as well, Echus_Chasma.

Great minds think alike.   big_smile  cool

#96 Re: Meta New Mars » Upgrade - Looks good » 2003-01-13 15:45:26

Cool smile Incidentally, polls are now working, which should make life much more interesting around here!

Sweet!

#98 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » Is there any point in wondering? - Isn't the question answered, after all? » 2003-01-12 15:16:59

Oh, and, incidentally - even the order of Creation in Genesis is correct. 'Sky', stars, Earth, moon, animals, humanity.

Yeah, maybe "And there was light" was the big bang. The Bible says that God created the universe in 6 days, well if you think about it, How long was a day then? Earth hadn't been completely made so maybe it wasn't 6 days of 24 hours like people think. How long is a universe 'day'? Billions of years, so maybe thats that the Bible is saying.

I dunno, its just a thought thats been on my mind for a while.
Hmm, If I said that a couple of hundred years ago I would've been hanged, probably faster than saying that the earth is round or the universe doesn't revolve around the earth.

#99 Re: Terraformation » Save the Martians! - Why Mar Soc Members are Morally Corrupt » 2003-01-12 14:50:14

I reckon it would be sorta cool to stay 'primal' for a bit just for the novelity of being the only living things on a planet. Yeah I wanna terraform and stuff, but it would be nice to keep some places natural, so like in a few hundred years time we could have "This Is What Mars Looked Like Before We Came" parks for tourism and stuff.
I'm sorta a mix of Red and Green, what colour is that again?
brown?

"It requires ages to destroy a popular opinion."  -- Voltaire

And I don't think even that is often enough time!  I bet all of the moon hoax nuts out there will take it as proof positive that Aldrin never went to the Moon because he refused to swear on the Bible.  No doubt the nut that provoked Aldrin will make a pretty penny off the publicity when he starts selling videotapes that claim the encounter as "proof" that we never went to the moon.  Since when does making people swear to anything constitute proof anyway?  We know of all the liars in court who freely swear to tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth with their hands firmly planted on the good book. I think Aldrin saw this guy for what he was, a charlatan that was out to make a buck and on top of that, one that was willing to exploit Aldrin's religious beliefs in the process.  If I was Aldrin I would have punched the idiot's lights out to.

It actually says in the Bible "do not swear by anything", or something to that effect.
