I'm not judging US army behaviour. I know too much that french troops did commit torture during Algeria liberation war, and that was ordered by highest army command level. A whole class of age conscript soldiers came back to France, wakening at night with the long and desperate screams of tortured guys nightmares.
None of them never talked about Algeria, trying so hard to forget..
Just no reports of laughing soldiers merry with the atrocities they knew they were commiting, when trying to get informations on the coming on next terrorist attacks.
How can you ask me to accept my citizen young fellows to get involved with that again ?

Sorry to say that, but Europeans deal with too low employment rate, extension of Europe and economic help to newcomers, while trying to keep budget balance.
They don't have a dime for Irak, and still have massively antiwar public opinion.
USA, GB and allies will have to deal with Irak whoever is at White House, so Americans have to prepare their minds to a long lasting and bloody occupation that will be much similar to IsraelvPalestine neverending conflict.

I guess that Irakis will not stand "limited sovereignty" that means US proconsulate for a long time.

Walking down the Quais de Seine, I saw a novel book, intittled "Les Xipehuz" by J Rosny Ainé, the "War of Fire" author.
I was attracted by the strange tittle. After a short bargain with the bouquinist I bought it 10 €.
What a luck, this 1887 short novel is among the very first books, may be the very first one where ETs confront Humans, old ages humans living very much as the Red Indians. It starts as a clan of humans join their summer pasture territories, see bright luminous shapes flying in the air and think that they must be gods. Ancients of the tribe order to youngsters to go process and present the gods with the best, food, flowers, and jewels the tribe has...then the slaughter starts on...
I shall not tell more, except that it's an amazingly modern and somehow quite poetic story.

Wise. As a froggy, I'm amazed by the french incredible diplomatic influence, showed by UNO delegates applauses at de Villepin's speech.
Keeping France as close (even quite messy) ally and friend strengthens the US position. Bush administration acting to weaken France and push her in a rest of the world alliance v USA have been as mistake as for Stalin asking : "Vatican, how many divisions ?"
Vatican had its revenge on active USSR split off.
Alliance could have been set if USA had assured that France's interests in middle East were to be preserved.
There was an old US British Dutch and French agreement attributing to France "Mesopotamia oil".
With Clinton, the Frenchies had a fairly good opinion at USA, and same each side of Atlantic, Bush and his room strategists destroyed this relationship, and he personally cannot restore it, any kind of trust has gone,
only another US president can. Same for majority of european citizens.

Irak has been visited for ten years by disarmament inspectors,
it was overflyed everyday by US and british air force and spy satellites.
When someone accuses, he must bring up evidences to make true his accusations, if he can't, he shuts up until he finds out !
That's the way before any fair Court of Justice.
And if french secret services reported to the french governement that Irak was not a threat, I have more trust on the french secret services which are much more accurate on middle east than US ones, and particularly about Irak, we're facing ME terrorism at home since 1986.
I never argued that bin Laden doesn't exist, 9/11 is a such heavily obvious evidence !

That was true before Irak War I, that was untrue before Irak War II, first war destroyed Irak war machine, UNO sanctions didn't let any possibility to Irak to import war material.

Well, if you call a liberated people a people occupyed by foreign troopers...and gangrened by day to day terrorist attacs and new gang crimilality that didn't exist before the invasion.
If you are sure that at the very moment these troops come back home, Irak will not turn into an ayatollah's islamic dictatorship, as a will of its Shiite majority.

I'm aware that we are all targets for terrorists, as islamic fundamentalists based here in Paris suburbs have sent today a message to french government threatening with heavy terrorist action if the veil law wasn't to be removed.

France + Germany, have 8.5 millions jobless people... among them more than a quarter million possible soldiers. One more bloody terrorist attack in Europe, and lots could raise, but more than 85% won't lift a finger as long as Bush and Rumsfeld bunch are in command. WMD lie destroyed any kind of trust. So, want some help ?  You know how to vote...
But basically, the only way to fight terrorism is to bring welfare state, hopeful people don't blast themselves.
With Bush's weapon programs, there in no room for that point of view.
