...and, the problem with terrorist is that they could care less what you have. We have nukes, yet they attacked us. They value their cause more than their lives.

You can't intemidate terrorist like that.

Damn! sad

The ground looks wet, so maybe that helped soften the impact.

If anyone can salvage data from the wreck, NASA can.

I am a Pacifist at Heart. I dream of the human race working together to do things like terraforming Mars and Venus. Imagine if the human race took all the resources we have put into war and used them to explore and settle space. Instead of fighting over this old world, we could build new worlds.

But as long as there are Hitlers and Saddams, terrorist like OBL. As long as people being slaughtered like in Sudan, and as long as government want to oppress their people like North Korea and Iran, there will be bloodshed.

Turning a blind eye makes us hypocrites and guilty- guilty for ignoring crimes against humanity when we could do something about it. Hypocrites because someone else dies for our human rights and freedom, and we are unwilling to do the same.
Some times war is necessary.

On the bright side, more people (in relation to population growth) are living better lives than every before.
Basic human rights and freedom are slowing taking over the Earth, inch by inch. We’ll get there- to a peaceful global society- one day.

And those pictures are from NOAA.

I do worry for Florida. This is a big storm and it is predicted to cut across the state.

They are still recovering from Charlie.

I have been in a C-3 hurricane, but never a C-4. C-3 was bad enough.

Carl Sagan, in his book Pale Blue Dot, talks about some (just a few) unexplained signals that have been picked up by SETI. They never could confirm those signals because they could never pick them up again. Yet they were unexplainable.

I wish he was alive to see this news.

President Bush said early on that the main reason for ousting Saddam was to bring freedom to the region. He said this was the best way we could defeat the terrorist, by getting rid of the environment that creates them. His vision is to spread freedom through the whole region. A free Middle East will not create terrorist. Why Iraq. After Afghanistan, Iraq was the greatest threat from the Middle East.

Is OBL still alive? If so, he is hiding in a cave somewhere. They are looking for him. If his is alive, the Marines will get him. I am starting to wonder if he is still alive. He is not one to go long without shooting his mouth off.

I am sad that we have lost 800 brave Americans. But they are fighting for a worthy cause and they have saved thousands of Iraqi lives.

Sudan is a mess. One problem at a time.

One day we'll have a united world where everyone has basic human rights. Maybe then we can finally really start to explore space.

I don’t see a difference between Saddam and Hitler

Saddam did take over Kuwait. He invaded Iran. He threatened to invade Saudi Arabia. He gassed thousands of Kurds with WMD. He had countless others murder. His sons raped woman. One of his sons had a human shredding machine.

Evil people in the same boat as Hitler.

REB

We did not fight for our freedom, thou. Other people did.

I don't think the Iraqis could fight for their freedom. Like I said, they were starving, they had no weapons and they were scared to even say anything that went against Saddam.

Saddam had his own secrete police that mimicked the Gestapo or KGP that terrorized his people.

You can not revolt if you don’t have the means. Think of American Slaves in the 1800’s.Could they have revolted? No, they were in no situation to. It took others to free them. What about the French under the Nazis. There was a resistance that had arms, but they were not enough. Most French did not revolt. Without America’s help they would have remained Nazis slaves.

You can not revolt if you are living in fear of saying anything. You can not revolt if you do not have any weapons. You can not revolt if you do not have the energy from malnutrition.

The American revolutionist, who died for our freedom, that we inherited, could meet and talked about what to do. They were well fed. They had arms. Their opposing government was across the Atlantic. If the Iraqis had a similar situation, then yes they could have revolted on their own. But they were not. Their situation was a cross between American slaves and those occupied by the Natis.

#238 Re: Not So Free Chat » Purple Heart "Badges" at RNC » 2004-08-31 14:49:30

REB

As for freedom, someone already died for ours back in 1776.  Unlike the Iraqis, the American revolutionist were well armed, well fed and their enemy was across the Atlantic. Their major grievance was being taxed to death verse the Iraqis, which was just staying alive

We lost many Americans giving Europe their freedom back in WWII. Germany did not attack America, so should we have stayed out of it?

The Japanese didn’t ask for freedom, but we gave it to them and look at what a powerful country they have become.

It is hard to fight for your freedom when you are being starved, and terrorized by your Gestapo, or KGB, like government. The Iraqis could not get organized and they did not have guns. Meanwhile Saddam and sons tortured, raped, gassed and even shredded the poor Iraqis. Saddam and his sons needed to go, for the good of humanity, they needed to go. Getting rid of them is enough to justify the war for me.

Sorry Cindy. I got way off topic. I just love my state.

I am fond the Rocky Mountain States, but I do not think I could survive the winters (I have thought of living in New Mexico or Colorado). Arkansas is like a second home state, since that is where my family is from and I have been going there my whole life. I spent a lot of time in northern Georgia and I like it there. But I’ll always hang my hat in Texas.

Cindy, to each their own, I suppose.

I have been all over America, but I can't think of any other state I would rather live in.

I love the East Texas rolling hills covered with pine forest. I love the white sands of Padre Island. I love the rugged mountains, with their islands of aspen and fir forest, of West Texas. I love the wild Big Bend region, and the wild Big Thicket Region. I even like the open skies of the panhandled cut by colorful canyons. My favorite part it the Central Texas Hill county- cool clear rivers, crystal clear lakes, tall hills, nice climate. The small German towns.

And the food! From seafood, to Mexican Food. Don't forget BBQ or chicken fried steak!. Nothing like eating  chicken fried steak at the Gristmill above the Guadeloupe river in Greune. Or Mexican food on San Antonio's River walk. Or Gulf Shrimp overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. As for BBQ, it is everywhere.

To each their own.

And speaking about being governor of Texas.

Texas is the only state to have ever been a country (This is why Texas is the only state allowed to fly its flag at the same level as the American flag). The Republic of Texas even had its own embassy in London (The building is still there and it is still called the Texas Embassy, but it is a Tex-Mex/ BBQ restaurant now).

Texas borders another nation and the Governor keeps close ties with the Mexican Government. Texas is larger than most European Counties . It is even larger than the UK and rivals France and Spain in size.

Thus ends today’s lesson. Tomorrow there will be a quiz. smile

Cobra, speaking about the UN, don't forget the corrupt UN Oil for Food program.

As for the it "was all about Oil"
It has cost the US much more money than we'll ever see in oil. From what I have seen, Iraq is getting the money for the oil is producing.

No, this is about bringing the Middle East into the Free World. There are many who see thjis and do not want this. They want to keep their women under wraps. They don't want to loose their power over these people.

Like I said, the seed of freedom has been planted, and it is a hard plant to kill.

#245 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » New Planets! » 2004-08-31 12:31:06

They have a mass the same as Neptune, but I saw that one of them is much closer to its star than Neptune is to the Sun- it orbits its star every 10 days. At that range the planet would have a diameter about twice that as the Earth, be much denser than Neptune with a surface gravity betwen 1.5 and 2 G's.

Remember that gravitational force a planet exerts upon an object at the planet's surface is proportional to its mass and to the inverse of its radius squared. So Uranus is 0.91 G’s and Neptune is 1.19 G's.

For me, Iraq is the fight for freedom in the Middle East. We have planted the seed of freedom there and I do believe it will grow. There are many who do not want this, but it is too late.

Once Iraq and Afghanistan are free democracies, I believe freedom will spread throughout the rest of the Middle East. The youth in Iran want this freedom. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait are pretty much free.

This is President’s Bush’s vision for the Middle East. He has said that the only way to stop terrorist is to get rid of the environment that breeds them. A suicide bomber has nothing to live for and has nothing to loose. Lets give them something some thing worth living for. Lets give them something to loose. Lets give them freedom.

And for those who think the Iraqis should have earned their own freedom, lets not forget that we did not earn our freedom- or forefathers did, and many died for it. The Iraqis were in no shape to revolt. Unlike the American revolutionist, the Iraqi people were underfed, unarmed and terrorized by their own government. Their enemy wasn’t a government on the other side of the Atlantic, it was in their homes.

As for WMD in Iraq, I still say the book is still open. We shall see.

Cobra, do you know what the final verdict was on those couple of tons of nuclear material we pulled out of Iraq?

And what about those 20 or so Iraq missile engines that showed up in Jordan. They were from banned missiles that Saddam couldn’t account for. They turned up in a scrap yard, apparently given to them by poor Iraqis who were selling whatever they could find. That may be where a lot of this stuff has gone. Hungry Iraqis are selling it for scrap.

Sorry if I am getting offtopic, Cindy.

Cindy,

Frankly I don’t care what Kerry or Bush did 30 something years ago. It is who they are now that concerns me.

George Bush was my governor for 8 years. He was a very good governor. When he became president, I knew he would do a good job, but I didn’t think he was a strong president. When I saw how he rose to the challenge after 9/11, I gained respect for him. During that horrible day he held this country together and did all the right things.

He is a man who sticks to what he feels is right regardless of what the polls show. I do believe he loves America and is trying to protect it. He is a man who’s country was brutally attacked by terrorist, and I can see the pain of that attack in his eyes.

I was afraid he was so obsessed with capturing bin laden that he would sacrifice anything to catch him, but I don’t see that now.

What about Kerry? I truly do not know where he stands on just about everything. I have heard him flip flop around on all the major issues.

I do like Senator Joe Lieberman. I like him a lot. I wouldn’t mind seeing him president one day. I wish the Democrat party had picked him. He is a good man who has direction and would do the right thing for America. I don’t see Kerry in that light.
