Up one levelThe Mars Society is excited to announce the release of the summer 2010 edition of The Mars Quarterly (TMQ). This edition includes articles by Kevin Sloan, Dr. Jonathan Clarke, Dr. Claudio Bruno of the ESA, and an interview with Dr. Carolyn Porco of the Cassini-Huygens project.
The recently completed 13th International Mars Society Convention held in Dayton Ohio, August 5-8, was a wonderful success. Despite the worst economic conditions in decades, over 200 regular conference attendees, plus 150 youngsters, turned out to hear or give presentations and participate in debates on how we can move forward to get humans to Mars in our time.
As you know, we bring the Mars Society Conventions to a different part of the country each year and take advantage of all the site has to offer. This year in Dayton we have tapped into the aviation history and vibrant aerospace community to bring you a very exciting event. And that community has welcomed us as none have in the past.
William Borucki, the Principal Investigator of NASA Kepler Space Telescope mission will give a plenary address to the 13th International Mars Society Convention, which will be held August 5-8th at the Marriott hotel in Dayton Ohio.
The Mars Society is pleased to announce the following speakers who will be presenting plenary sessions at this year's convention.
On Friday, July 16, the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee unanimously approved the NASA Authorization Act of 2010, with funding included on the initiative of Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) for the space agency to begin the development of a heavy lift launch vehicle (HLV). The Mars Society cheers this decision.
The Mars Society is pleased to announce that NASA scientists Carol Stoker and Geoffrey Landis will be presenting at this year's convention.
As many of you experienced, there was a technical problem with our registration system on July 30th, the original deadline for early registration. The system is now up and running and the early registration rates will be available until July 9th.
This year we are pleased to present Mars Camp! It is designed to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) education and will include flight simulators, hands-on displays and special guest speakers -- all aimed at educating and inspiring the next generation of space explorers. So bring your family with you to this year’s convention and share your passion for humans to Mars

The Mars Society is pleased to announce that Dr. Ian O’Neill will not only be presenting at this year’s convention but will also be the Master of Ceremonies at the banquet on Saturday evening.
The Mars Society is pleased to announce that it has partnered with the Journal of Cosmology to produce a special edition this fall on the theme "Colonizing Mars." We invite all member and non-member scientists to respond to the following call for papers.

13th Annual International Mars Society Convention
The 13th Annual International Mars Society Convention will soon be here. We have a great line up of speakers, Mars Camp for kids and families and 2 tours. Dr. Ian O’Neill, Space Science Producer for Discovery News (http://news.discovery.com/space/) will be this year’s Master of Ceremonies at the banquet and Carolyn Porco will be the featured speaker. If you missed her at the 2008 convention this is your chance to see her extraordinary presentation of the images from Cassini.

The Mars Society would like to congratulate Diego Urbina on being selected for the Mars 500 project, the first full-duration simulation of a human mission to Mars. Mars 500 is a joint project with ESA and the Russian Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP). Diego was the crew biologist for Crew 88 at the Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS) located near Hanksville, UT.
