Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

NewMarsMember@gmail.com portal is open for business.

We had ONE new message(s) this morning. NO new emails were sent.

LinkedIn sent out another selection of recent posts. There was a nice mix of topics on offer. Communications, Politics, copyright are three that I remember. This is clearly a way for individuals to present themselves to the audience LinkedIn creates.

To apply for membership, please write newmarsmember@gmail.com

For existing registered members who have lost your password ... If you remember the email address you used to register, you can request a recovery email at that address.  If you no longer have the email available (as could happen over 20+ years) just write to NewMarsMember@gmail.com  email address. Your request will be forwarded to SpaceNut, who has the tools available to assist as needed.

The images server at http://new-mars.org/phpBB3 is working.

The Azure VM is responding once again. I suspect it had gone to sleep due to dis-use. Microsoft said it would pull the plug on or about November 14th of 2025, but it has not yet done so. The non-response was due to the router IP address not being in the white list at the Azure site.  There are several routers here and they compete with each other for connection.

The images server at http://NewMars.com/phpBB3 is offline. The new server supports direct display of images.

The main NewMars forum has been updated from 2012 to 2024 standards. It was activated live on Sunday 2024/12/01.

Recordings of the 25th Anniversary Mars Society Conference are now available on YouTube.

We are happy to welcome former members back into the active community.  It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned".  In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.

Because of the onslaught of thousands upon thousands of spammers over 20+ years, the decision was made to close off access to inactive accounts.  Unfortunately, the only mechanism available is the "banning" tool.  If you are an older member and you find your account has been banned, it may have been locked to prevent hacker access.  You can ask SpaceNut to reactivate the account. See the procedure below.  Those who were banned for inappropriate behavior may also apply.  SpaceNut will then have the opportunity to evaluate your application.

SpaceNut is in the process of upgrading members from "banned" to inActive. Since there are over 1000 folks caught up in this situation due to the spammers, it is going to take SpaceNut a while to complete the upgrade.

For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects, or providing leadership on new projects.  We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions.  We don't need more folks in that specialty.  We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real universe, or who have a vision of life on Mars they'd like to pursue.

Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

NewMarsMember@gmail.com portal is open for business.

We had ONE new message(s) this morning. ONE new emails were sent.

This was an interesting letter. We were contacted by a member of the Mars Society who wanted to change email addresses. I took the opportunity to offer access to NewMars.com/forums, while investigating the procedure for updating the email address at Mars Society. it turned out that the member's email was no longer on record, so I suggested the member re-register using the new email address. I note that the Society is using a third party membership service, so it is possible that accounts that had expired might not have been transferred to the new service.  In any case, is was fun to be contacted by a Mars Society member. If we hear any more I'll report the contact here.

Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

NewMarsMember@gmail.com portal is open for business.

We had TWO new message(s) this morning. ONE new emails were sent.

One was from LinkedIn, with emphasis this time on the field of "sales".  The other was a longer message from the gent who inquired about membership, and who mentioned a paper he had written on fusion.  It is going to take me some time to build back up the mental skill set needed to evaluate a paper on fusion.  Knowledge of high level physics seems to fade rapidly, when it is not exercised on a daily or at least frequent basis.  The gent described meeting Dr. Zubrin at a conference on planning for disaster, held in Knoxville, Tennessee. The gent has shown no interest in becoming a member of this forum, but that option remains available.

Unfortunately, our active membership has decreased significantly from the peak years.  We need members with deep knowledge of physics and particularly nuclear physics to evaluate the paper this gent has written.  I suspect that without formal training, he is quite likely to have missed something important about how the Universe works. It happens to many of us as we attempt to understand the physics or chemistry, let alone quantum physics, which this paper will be dealing with. I find it pays to be modest about understanding the Universe.

Update: If a member of ** this ** forum applies for an account on the Image Server, please let us (Admins) know, so we can look for your User ID in the waiting room.

NewMarsMember@gmail.com portal is open for business.

We had ONE new message(s) this morning.

Our candidate with the fusion proposal corresponded with us again. He added a detail about his biography.  Meanwhile, his proposal is being studied in the Projects category.

Our candidate came back later in the day with a set of messages about a stream of Deuterium atoms.  This discussion seemed to me better suited for later in our study of his proposal.

We had TWO new message(s) this morning.

Our candidate with the fusion proposal corresponded with us again. I'll be reviewing the messages later today.  We are getting deeper into nuclear physics than (at least I) have been for years, so it's going to take some time to ramp up.  All I know for ** sure ** is that the smartest people on the planet are working this problem, and Nation States are investing heavily in finding a solution. Our correspondent is looking for a short cut that all those brilliant people missed. My attitude is that the exercise of ** looking ** will be educational and therefore valuable in it's own right.

Re: Recruiting expertise for NewMars Forum topics:

NewMarsMember@gmail.com portal is open for business.

We had ONE new message(s) this morning. NO email(s) were sent.

The gent who's been corresponding with us about a D2-D2 reaction sent a short summary of his proposal. The matter is out of the level where it started. We have offered to create an account in the forum, and have requested the desired User ID. We have not yet received that information so will be standing by.

NewMars members enrolled include:
Site Administrator (shared by kbd512 and tahanson43206)
GW Johnson
kbd512
tahanson43206
SpaceNut
Calliban

All members of NewMars are welcome to open an account in the Newmars image server.

Update: If a member of ** this ** forum applies for an account on the Image Server, please let us (Admins) know, so we can look for your User ID in the waiting room.

The first post in this forum is dated 2001-09-04.  Author was John Creighton from Nova Scotia.
