While this is a more cynical article on space travel, I would guess that a large percentage of people feel this way..

That article was so tongue-in-cheek, with a number of good hightech idea endorsements (highspeed trains, astroid avoidance, and all that would entail) that I believe it to be progressive rather than cynical. No criticism of private space enterprise--only wasted government funds obtained from taxes paid by the unconverted. We tend to say the same in our forums, only more subtlely perhaps, so as not to bite the hand that (hopefully) will be feeding us ie: NASA. Perhaps we're just a bit hypocrital, hm-mm?
