It will be available for the next 30 days (or so).
Monthly North Houston Space Society Chapter Meeting
with NSS North Houston Space Society
Nathan Price
10:16 PM
The Zoom recording and the Presentations have been published to our website:
https://www.northhoustonspace.org/2021/ … space-age/
The presentation was about a new book on (possible) life away from Earth.
The video ** also ** shows a remarkable demonstration of hybrid meeting in an on-site location with (lots of) Internet participation.
The organization of the hybrid format was well done, and (in fact) the best I have seen so far.
Both video and audio were managed with success. The chat feature worked for audience participation, and there was even one successful audio interaction with a remote viewer.

The next meeting of the North Houston Chapter of National Space Society is December 11th.
No details about the agenda were published at the web site as of Saturday December 4th. However, I expect the gathering will be worth attending as members offer their regular updates.

Hi Nathan, We (Mars Society) have a speaker who might be willing to address your audience. He is leading a design project for a large space going passenger vessel. He presented at the recent (2021) Mars Society conference. His talk is available on YouTube. Name is Robert Dyck. Please let me know if you are interested. He said he would be willing to speak if you want him, and I have been neglectful in contacting you. (th)

RobertDyck was booked for a presentation on Large Ship, for March 12, 2022.
Nathan Price (President of the Chapter and Host of meetings) and RobertDyck exchanged email.
The Large Ship is already progressing nicely, so it should be even further along by next March.

The NSS chapter meeting is off to a slow start. The HDMI cable connection did not work. Apparently there is a cable provided by the restaurant to the overhead projector. The onsite team are attempting to connect a laptop directly to the projector.

For SpaceNut and all ...
RobertDyck gave what ** I ** felt was a terrific talk, and he got some serious questions from two of the chapter members.
GW Johnson was given a brief time to introduce himself, and to give a preview of his onsite talk next month.
I'd like to thank BOTH RobertDyck and GW Johnson for all the preparations you made!
This was the first joint activity (that I know of ) between Mars Society and NSS, and I hope we can build upon this success.
The talk was recorded, and it will be available online in a couple of days:

David recruited me to volunteer for the Space Settlement contest. And said I could recruit volunteers from alumni. Their projects have some impressive graphics! We'll see if I can recruit college students to help with the Large Ship.

tahanson43206,
Yes, Robert's talk was excellent and well-received by the NSS members in attendance.
We seemed to have some problems with the audio equipment towards the end, but other than that I think it went rather well.

For RobertDyck re #47
Thanks again for working to make this presentation as smooth as it turned out. It seemed to me you were on a roll when Nathan called for Questions ... Would you be interested in doing a follow up? GW Johnson will be carrying the Large Ship ball next meeting, on April 9th. I understand you've been too busy working on your talk to follow his work, but one of the scenarios he's offering would allow your vessel to devote a small part of it's mass to the propulsion system, compared to what would be required if it had to do all the work itself.
Your suggestion toward the end of the talk, of making the propulsion module replaceable seems to me to fit into that line of thinking.
***
For kbd512 ... thanks for taking the time to attend! I'm glad you go to meet a number of the members. Attendance was down from some meetings, so there'll be others you can meet in the future.
Your comment about the audio is helpful.
Almost everyone in the Zoom had their mikes on mute, which would have helped. It was (possibly) during the Q&A that audio became a problem. There was no on site traffic manager, as is sometimes the case.
Ideally, folks who want to speak would signal with a raised hand icon, and they would be the only one speaking.
That aside, I think North Houston is doing the best job of hybrid meetings I have seen so far.

More feedback for RobertDyck ...
This is from our contact in the chapter:
It was a good presentation. People stayed and talked about it for some time after. Biggest topic after meeting was safety and emergency procedures. Might let Robert know that people are interested in that.
If you would like to provide feedback (including references requested during the meeting) please post a reply here and I will forward it immediately.
Thanks again for all the thought and planning you put into the presentation.
Out of curiosity ... would you be interested in doing something similar for other NSS chapters?
It sounds (to my ear) as though you made a good First Impression, so there might be some willingness to put out a favorable review within NSS.
