Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut ... it appears the run to 150000 has finished.  I am attending a meeting of the local 3D printer group - onsite folks with Internet participation, so won't be able to check the run for a while.

Meanwhile, I ran across this item as a link from one of the recent posts (probably by Mars_B4_Moon)...

SpaceNews Comment Policy

We are a respectful community. Refrain from personal attacks, hate speech and profanity or you will be banned.

That policy is a lot shorter than ours.

***
I've tested the latest JavaScript on multiple machines at this point.  It worked correctly on every one tested so far:

1) XP IE 8
2) Windows 10 Edge
3) Ubuntu 22.04 Chromium
4) Windows 7 Firefox

I'm looking forward to your feedback on the input process, when you get time to give it a stress test.

I ** did ** run a test of 300 loop cycles, and the program ran as I'd hoped.

What I'm thinking now is to keep the report for each TestID limited to one line.

The control I'm using (div) is defaulted to 80 characters. That should be more than enough.

What I'm imagining is something like:

Current ID: 12345  Status: TestID12345 found. TestID12345 updated

or...

Current ID: 99999 Status: TestID99999 not found

or (unlikely)

Current ID: 12346 Status: TestID12346 found. TestID12346 NOT updated (reason if available)

It seems unlikely (to me at least) that if the TestID is found, that it could not be updated.

You have a lot more experience with this than anyone else ... have you ever had an update balk for any reason?

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re TestID upgrade to member status ...

While investigating the next phase of the JavaScript utility, I ran this query:

Admin Index» Bans» Search Results
Pages: 1 2 3 … 141 Next
Username    Email    IP/IP-ranges    Expires    Message    Banned by    Actions
TestID11401    testid11401@test.com         Never                 SpaceNut    Edit | Remove
TestID11402    testid11402@test.com         Never                SpaceNut    Edit | Remove

I noticed that a Moderator appears to be able to remove a username from the banned table.

Is that all that is needed to restore a TestID to member status?

If so, then I could (presumably) take care of that, so you wouldn't have to.

A quick check indicates we have 18350 TestID's, and of those, 7079 are banned.

Update a bit later:

This version of the query was generated by the search request:

This version of the query was tested on NewMars. It was copied from the first quote above, without empty search arguments.

I copied the shortened query and submitted it on a different browser, to confirm it works without the blank parameters:

I deduce this shortened query would work for the JavaScript fetch. The resulting query output seems to a lot more data than would be ideal.

Ideally, only the top item would be returned.  There may be a way to adjust the query so only one item shows up.

By any chance, do you know of a way to do that?

The alternative is to call for a testID by it's individual number ... I'll try that ...

The shorted form above, with the exact name specified, delivered only one record.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #2593...

Thanks for testing the latest version of the TestID update utility.  I presume from your report that the system worked to your satisfaction, but I can't tell how thoroughly you tested it.   In the next phase, I'm planning/hoping to make the leap from 2008 to 2015, when the Fetch command/method was added to the system, along with related concepts such as "promise" and "await".

My tentative plan for tomorrow's work session is to try to cause FluxBB to deliver output from the Bans Table query. It appears (from Eloquent JavaScript) that there are two possibilities ... the data from the query could be requested as text, and i'll start there.  however, output can also be requested in something called 'JSON' format, which (I gather) is something like XML, which I have worked with.

Meanwhile, I'm working on a script for the existing WBA program, to perform the same operation.  I'm hoping the two initiatives will run concurrently and produce comparable results.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #2595

Thanks!  that makes sense .... that command will be coded into the "Fetch" command tomorrowl

At the moment, I'm pestering poor little TestID11404. The script test is not yet working correctly, so I'll keep making adjustments until the record shows up.

I'm not doing updates at this point.

Update next day.... the script was failing because I had inserted a comma where it did not belong, and there are no diagnostics in that subsystem to report the error. The command simply fails.

With the comma removed, the script is now working so later today I'll add the mouse click to perform "Remove", and poor little TestID11404 should be elevated to a place of honor in the "member" showcase, ready for a NewMars member.

Re: Housekeeping

For SpaceNut re #2599

Thanks for taking a look at the updates as they are proceeding.

The current run is set to stop at 11700.

The procedure that put a message in the Profile was doing many steps to arrive at the banned TestID's we see today.

Part of that process included posting the date of the run in the Profile.

We can update the profile with current information when we prepare it for a new member.

At the rate we are going with new member admissions, I expect we'll have one per year, if we are lucky.

There will be plenty of time to post needed information in the Profile of the new member.
