Re: Plant shell-world Venus

Seriously? You're predicting electronic people - who need to get jobs in an economy, and have to shut themselves down if things go bad? Technology advances, but we still get stuck with archaic capitalism?

E-people still need electrcity, but then, they might be more efficient than humans at consuming it. The human brain requires about 20W; it might be possible for a posthuman to survive on less than this. Even so, it's unlikely they would need more than a square meter of solar cells at Terran insolation to run themselves.

But human beings can replicate much faster than they actually do. There's actually very little that's stopping most women from having 10 kids in the west, other than their decision.  If people were focused on having as many children as they could, the human population would be a lot higher than it actually is. I don't understand why you think posthumans would be any different. Except for the narcissists, which means you end up with a civilisation dominated by a few mindclones of people who don't care much for anyone else. Um. Nice place you've got there.

I think you're missing a big one, insofar as human uploading or AI will fundamentally change the human experience.   It will also eliminate labor constrained economies, which to date have been the rule.

Re: Plant shell-world Venus

The idea is that there are people who would like to "become" high tech, that is they would become no longer human, in fact there would be no way they could deal with nanotechnology and keep up with its advancements without becoming inhuman electronic beings

We ARE electronic beings, but run computers/brains we do not yet understand. Also hardly in the last few decades after millions of years of ignorance we start scratching the cover of the Great secret of DNA, life ... we dealt with nanotech from the very dawn of the human era, without to have even a slighter clue how it operates.

Those people need suitable Earthlike environments to live on, the closer it is to Earth the better, that is why terraforming is important.

Which Earthlike environment? : the bottom of the Mariana trench? the South pole on 22nd of June each year? 1km under the most heavenly place ON Earth? In the focus of a high grade tornado, volcano eruotion's epicenter, or just naked in some boringly normal moderate climate zone country's Xmas night? ...
