The treaty aims to eliminate the production, stockpiling, storage and use of land mines worldwide.
The decision to join the Ottawa Treaty caused controversy in 2011, but it was approved by parliament with 110 in favour and 47 against. The treaty’s strongest advocates were peace organisations and the then-president Tarja Halonen (SDP), while the defence ministry at the time disagreed.
The land border between Finland and Russia is 1,300 kilometres long, and Russia has not signed the mine ban. Other countries that are not party include the US, China, India, Iran, Israel, Syria and Saudi Arabia.

The Canadian Ottawa Convention had 122 country signed when it opened, there are now 164 States Parties to the Treaty.

When he first made speeches in public he would cosplay and dress up like other childrens book characters, wear Hindu clothes, wear Cowboy costume, dress Chinese he did it all. Now Trudeau faces rising prices and a recession, so when his Truckers protested he called them terrorists then ordered Police to charge into peaceful crowd, almost crushed a disabled elderly woman then he flew to Europe expecting to be welcomed but some asked if he wanted to act like a 'Dictator' and asked why he was getting so emotional and asked Trudeau what he was doing to his own people. Some political talk back home in Canada about a shooting on tv in another country the United States seems to have made Trudeau act very emotional against legal citizens of Canada?

I used to work for SNC Lavalin. They are about as woke as you can get. One time they had a George Floyd appreciation day, where we were supposed to bend a knee for a dead armed robber who is frankly the most unlikely hero that I can imagine. They bombarded employees with endless woke ideology, LBGTQ BS, racial diversity nonsense. Anyone that disagreed was disciplined for 'failing to promote a diverse workforce'.

The first case of the Corona virus was confirmed to have reached Canada on January 2020, we then got to see a big difference between Canada's response to the virus and the USA's response. Canada's response was first praised but its lockdowns and restrictions have later led to protests and even more harsh response by the Trudeau gov. There was a US Federal response but individual States inside the US sometimes gave more respect for individual constitutional freedoms. Sweden,the USA, South Korea, Taiwan, Brazil did not fully lockdown, Sweden was initially criticized for allowing Corona to enter nursing homes, the Swedish achieved herd immunity but there was a cost paid for this in people's lives which should not be ignored. In Canada just like the USA there was also Panic buying: empty toilet paper shelves on March 2020 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Canada closed its border with the USA, also in April 2021 Foreign flights were only allowed to land in Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, or Vancouver while all flights to the Caribbean and Mexico had been suspended, Canada became one of the most vaccinated countries in the world, with a continually high uptake of the vaccine.

Since the Treaty, Antarctica can not be compared with a nation and has no permanent residents but children have been born there.
