Re: Collisional planetary engineering - bomb Venus with 1388 Kleopatra

karov,

I wonder if the same impactor hitting at the same angle more toward the poles will have a totally different outcome. ?

The kinetic energy should be slightly greater in em parted spin rate for Venus  hitting away from the equator depending on location.
A change in axis position is also possible with a northern or southern latitude impact.

The strange orbit of the ejected mass will also be quite complex in a non equator impact.

The universe isn't being pushed apart faster.
It is being pulled faster towards the clumpy edge.

Re: Collisional planetary engineering - bomb Venus with 1388 Kleopatra

chat,

Yes, as the case with martian ancient equator - it is believed that the axial tilt was imparted via series of huge collision, which changed the angle of inclination of the planetary axis according to the orbital plane.

More interesting for me is the influence on the axial rate of rotation from the impacts.

It seems not the kinethic energy but the momentum is crucial!
