which shows summer with the increasing air pressure and dust increasing lagging for the seasonal change coming soon...

Sol 520 is Thursday in the Proposed calendar for Mars.

The Next New Year's on Mars will occur when Solar Longitude reaches 360 degrees.
The next Skip Day will occur in September on Earth. A Skip Day occurs when the longer Mars Sol reaches 24 Earth hours.
For those who may be following this proposed calendar closely, there exists a "feature" I had not anticipated.
Days of the week fall behind Earth due to the longer Sol, but they gain when Friday is omitted at the end of a Quarter

Re: Martian Calender - I have created a martian calender...

For SpaceNut re topic ...

A while back, you persuaded me to add sky tracking to the daily Mars Calendar post.  While the background sky is occasionally interesting, it was not surprising.

However, I have just witnessed a transition to retrograde movement, which was observed by the ancients with clear skies and the zeal as great as any modern astronomer, but which is denied to most humans in industrialized nations.

The web site TheSkyLive.com does an admirable job of presenting the sky as it would have appeared to an observer on Earth if the sky were clear, so the beginning of retrograde movement is easy to see.  In addition, the presenters have added small computer generated markers showing where Mars will be with respect to the background stars in coming times.

I have a little Orrery that languishes in a drawer most of the time.  I brought it out to see what it shows, and ** sure enough ** it shows Mars directly outside Earth.  That also implies Mars should be overhead at midnight, for those with skies clear enough to permit viewing.

Sol 525 is Tuesday in the Proposed calendar for Mars.

Today on Mars:  <<-- Days of the week are out of alignment with those on Earth due to the longer Martian Day. September 2020 next alignment estimate.

Per http://www-mars.lmd.jussieu.fr/mars/tim … _time.html

Martian Year: 35  Martian Month in 12 month format: 10 <<== The Astronomical month will increment when longitude reaches 300 degrees

Solar Longitude: 281.0   Sol Number: 532  Change is +.7 degrees
Previous SL:      280.3  Previous Sol: 531

Note that Solar Longitude measurement varies as a function of location in orbit.

Note#2: https://theskylive.com/mars-tracker  This web site shows the astronomical position of Mars.
Minus prefix means Mars is approaching the Sun.  Perihelion occurred at Ls 253 on Sol 485 - Earth Date 2020/08/03
Plus prefix means Mars is moving away from the Sun. Aphelion will occur near 70 degrees Ls (per www.planetary.org)

Distance of Mars from the Sun is given by theskylive.com as:   209,091,889 km Difference is +95605 <== 4068 km/hour at 8.2 on 9/20
Distance of Mars from the Sun is given by theskylive.com as:   208,996,284 km Difference is +101402 <= 3992 km/hour at 8.7 on 9/19
Distance of Mars from the Sun is given by theskylive.com as:   208,894,882 km Difference is +87098 <== 3920 km/hour at 7.3 on 9/18

Reference star; HIP 8254 Magnitude 8.70 26 hours to West - Even with Mars on 2020/09/20 This star should be good for at least two more days.

The apparent position of Mars is moving West away from the reference star, albeit slowly, as Earth slides "under" Mars
Mars is executing the "Retrograde" movement as seen from Earth. Earth is passing "under" Mars.
The online solar system display at the link below shows clearly how the Mars retrograde movement will occur in months ahead.
Retrograde movement started 2020/09/08 Sol 520

This web site offers an online model of the solar system: www.solarsystemscope.com  It requires Chrome 57, Firefox 52 or Safari 10.1

Sol 532 is in Month 20 of a Proposed 24 month calendar. See Post 19 of Holidays topic for a summary.
Month 20 extends from Sol 530 through 557. See post 82 of Holidays topic for current details. <<== There are 28 days in Month 19

Sol 532 is Tuesday in the Proposed calendar for Mars.

I noticed that the day time wind speed increase cools the high temperature for the day quite quickly..

Re: Martian Calender - I have created a martian calender...

For SpaceNut re #768

Would you be willing to add details to #768 .... I'm thinking of a little chart showing the trends you have noticed.

Of course you already know this, but for new readers of the forum, the technique would be to store some numbers in a spreadsheet, and to use the spreadsheet chart feature to create an image that could be written to imgur.com, and then posted to this web site using the bbcode format.

Re: Martian Calender - I have created a martian calender...

I found this other news site while searching for the data for the insight and Curiosity (MSL) sensors of temperature, solar energy and windspeed.
https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/

This is the Rovers instruments
https://mars.nasa.gov/msl/spacecraft/instruments/rems/
With the data going here http://cab.inta-csic.es/rems/marsweather.html

Summary pages
https://cab.inta-csic.es/rems/weather-r … -month-11/
https://cab.inta-csic.es/rems/weather-r … -month-10/

Hopefully they keep the same page address structure to find more.

This is the top panel for the rovers data page
https://mars.nasa.gov/layout/embed/image/mslweather/
This is the insight data panel so we can compare how cold each day is across the planet
https://mars.nasa.gov/layout/embed/imag … htweather/

InSight Is the Newest Mars Weather Service

No matter how cold your winter has been, it's probably not as chilly as Mars. Check for yourself: Starting today, the public can get a daily weather report from NASA's InSight lander.

https://mars.nasa.gov/insight/weather/

Daily Weather Report

InSight is taking daily weather measurements (temperature, wind, pressure) on the surface of Mars at Elysium Planitia, a flat, smooth plain near Mars’ equator.

This is a graph but its easier to see in numbers
insight_marsweather_white.png

The air and temperature are easier to see in the table image that is done in java script code from another source and is displayed above that one.

Still looking for the raw data location for daily measurements.....

Thank you for this very nice addition to the topic!

I'll have to come back when I'm on a "modern" computer to follow links, or to see the graph.
