It seems highly likely that I am the only person in the Solar System who is celebrating the end of a complete cycle of days of the week for the proposed Mars Calendar.   For the past 252 Earth Days, I have been watching with something like consternation, as the days of the week on Mars drifted further and further behind the corresponding days of the week on Earth.

Happily, the days are now back in alignment, where they will remain for 36 Earth days.

I can easily imagine that Skip Alignment Day will be an occasion for celebration, since humans need little excuse for a celebration, and Skip Alignment Day comes a LOT sooner than New Years on Mars.

For time we have the problem that we have many jobs which can be performed daily to surviv and hrive but we have few rockets going our way to mars. The costs of those rides are beyond the middle class to be able to start aknew life where bias is gone. We are still waiting for a man safe vehicle just to get to orbit since our moon landings let alone going to mars that does not carry a NASA astronaut and aside from the few billionaires that have gone to the ISS that is as far as it gets....

Insight has been monitoring the seizmic machines vibrations and has found a 2.4hz frequency to which it is wondered what could be making it. That is a very slow motion as a hz is a cycle in a second measurement or just under a half second of time to complete the cycle. One could hope that we are measuring the core still in motion and not solid as it would provide the means to rev up the dynamo with the planet to produce a magnetic field of greater strenght.

We are approaching the holiday season and for mars men and woman we will be reminded of the love ones which are not with us as we approach Christmas and the New years for earth. Sure we could celebrate christmas twice a year but new years not so much.

Your suggestion that Mars residents might keep the Christmas season going based upon the Earth calendar is interesting.

There are numerous religions that evolved on Earth with a focus upon the terrestrial calendar.

It seems to me that all dependence upon terrestrial orbital movements will fade in importance as the first generation of immigrants dies out.

However, in case anyone thinking about holidays on Mars missed previous commentary, there are FOUR likely occasions for celebration in the Mars year, according to the proposed calendar that is the theme of this topic.

This topic is following Mars around the Sun for a complete orbit.  Along the way, at the end of each Quarter, a day is removed from the last week of the month, in order to insure we arrive at the end of the year with only part of a Sol to clean up the old year, and start the new year aligned exactly to the actual astronomical position of the planet.

Since the proposed day removed is Friday, it would seem reasonable (to me at least) to expect that citizens will celebrate the day off with various activities on the weekend following.

Because humans have always come up with religions based upon the terrestrial calendar, I have no doubt that some enterprising visionary will come up with something unique to Mars.

While earth is in the northern hemisphere is in winter, mars is getting warmer for its summer.

The next launch to mars will occur for the Mars 2020 rover mission. Under NASA's Mars Exploration Program planned to launch on 17 July 2020. With the touch down in Jezero crater on Mars on 18 February 2021.

We should be having way more missions readied and waiting for mars than just 1 if we are going to ever get there.
