The email provider is hotmail, so even after 20 years, if the email account is still monitored, an email might reach PsychicCrab
However, I must admit I'm a bit skeptical of the user name chosen by this individual
Let's see what we have ...
Meta New Mars » Should NASA credit Richard C. Hoagland? - Sign our petition!
I remember those heady times .... a shape captured by a Mars satellite caused Mr. Hoagland to imagine an artifact, and quite a few folks at the time thought the image was worth a closer look.
PsychicCrab started a topic, and three members at the time responded with critical assessment of the Hoagland excitement.
I've decided to post a reply by TioRay, which captures the sentiment ....
Sorry.....Its obvious to most people that Hoaglands work is no more than his best guess and unfortunatly has the accuracy to match. I think anyone of us could produce work to his same standard just by renting some old original series Star Treks combined with a coin for flipping, except none of us crave attention from crackpots like you PsychicCrab.

This turns out to be the name/web address of a (reasonably) famous school in New York...
I asked Google for information, and got back an astonishing amount of snippets about Performance Space at ps122.org
The email username implies the person might have been associated with the school in some way.
Well, it seems assured that the email provider still works. The list of citations for PS122 is ** far ** out of the ordinary.

Let's see what this adventurous person chose as a topic ...
: Martian Chronicles » Don't miss "Untitled Mars (this title may change)"
Of course! An announcement of a performance of a play about Mars ....
THEATER: "Untitled Mars(this title may change)"by Jay Scheib
DATE: April 8 - 27 2008
TIME: Tuesday - Friday at 8pm
Saturday at 4 pm and 8pm
Sunday at 6pmLOCATION: PS122, 150 First Ave at 9th street, East Village, NYC
SPECIAL OFFER: $12 tickets* (Reg $20)
HOW TO ORDER:go to ps122 .org or call 212.352.3101 and enter/mention code LIFE or bring a printout of this email to the box office at PS122 (at 150 First Ave)
Taking a cue from the space industry, Jay Scheib’s latest work pits hard Science against Philip K. Dick as interplanetary speculation runs amok, the indigenous population gets screwed, and a strange "anomalous" kid seems to hold all the answers. Developed at MIT with a team of Mars researchers and anthropologists, a mission to colonize the Red Planet is revving up for 2017. Imagining what might happen once we get there, Scheib drops seven performers into a simulated Martian society. Can’t make ends meet on Earth? Consider a one-way ticket to Mars!
*offer subject to availability and may be revoked at any time - so order in advance! Additional blackout dates may apply. Not valid for previously purchased tickets or in combination with any other offer. All sales final; no refunds or exchanges. phone and web orders are subject to service fees.
For more info please visit our website:ps122
OK .... this is definitely going to be a long shot, but I'll send the email to ps122.org.
Someone there will (no doubt) find SpaceNut's message perplexing, but the email contains contact information, and since this appears to be an adventurous group of folks who've been enlivening the arts scene in New York for decades, they might at least ** look ** at NewMars ...
I must say, the playwrite seems to catch the spirit of the Mars venture, without being encumbered by bog-down details.

There were four replies
This all happened ten years ago ... Louis was the first person to respond to the post
http://www.amazon.com/Humans-on-Mars-eb … B007H7C926
In the event where the “virtual humans” and real “humans” co-exist on Mars, there may be conflicts between the two entities. It is easy for us to imagine that the humans will always win over the pseudo-human anthropomorphic beings. But, we must also remind ourselves that the virtual humans will be designed by other humans, with their own, personal ambitions. Can they not program those ambitions into their own images? Would that not create a competition, and even warfare between the humans and the pseudo-humans? Does that mean that there will be a different set of laws for the robots or computers performing tasks previously only in the domain of humans? Or, will there be treaties and requirements not to program any ambitions into the “machines?” Is it now—or will it ever be—possible to stop the progress of technology?
Technology will always progress. But, all possible governance models have already been tried on earth. Most of those models have failed. So, more humanistic models had to be tried as a last resort; after all, governance must be maintained in order to have polities. Was the switch always voluntary on the part of the human populations? Certainly not; the process was often bloody, with both the members of the administrative organs and members of the population losing members to the grim reaper. Was the switch done because the earlier governance model was not humanistic enough? If the population is unhappy, sooner-or-later, they will move on the cause of their unhappiness.
The link to the book is still active on Amazon, and there is more information about the book and about the author, who is from England.
After all these years, there are ** still ** no reviews!
However, the Look Inside feature is active ...
The look inside shows (me at least) that the author would have fit right into the NewMars forum at the time.
PLM may have thought so as well.

Topic: Not So Free Chat » An introduction
I was looking around for the new user intro thread/forum, without success. This either means I'm in the right place to say hello in Free Chat or completely blind. I must say this is a fascinating forum and I'm surprised I haven't come across it sooner. But before I post anything, I thought I ought to introduce myself.
My homebase board is over at The Big Red Board (http://www.bigredboard.com), which is a forum about Nebraska football. Otherwise, I shop around a bit for space and Mars related sites and I suppose I've been looking for a home. At any rate, delighted to be here. And if I'm missing that new user intro thread, please feel free to slam me unremittingly.
This new member was warmly welcomed by Rxke (from Belgium) and by Josh Cryer (admin at the time).
That was the end of it!
I'll send one of SpaceNut's emails, but am not expecting much. Perhaps there were too many other interests going on, and demands on time.
After 17 years, there might be renewed interest in Mars Settlement.

This is a surprise .... photon created a new account from neutrino, so technically is not a single post candidate.
neutrino had 13 posts: neutrino is Member 351 (also First Wave and surely acquainted with RobertDyck (#274))
I'm back; I morphed into a photon from a neutrino. I couldn't remember my password and I changed my internet provider so I had to assume another name.
We have done some tests on this proposal and presented it at the last Mars Society conference. A paper was presented to them soon after the conference. A proposal is in the works to apply for funding from NASA.
This is the web site where you can find it at [http://www.arrow-space-innovations.com]Arrow Space Innovations I posted a copy of the paper that is up for publication on that web site.
The Windsurfer will work on Mars by taking advantage of the wind currents above the surface because of a natural effect of the way the wind moves above the ground. The Martian boundary layer, 200 meters to 500 meters above the surface is where the wind speed is much greater than it is on the ground. This elevation is where the Windsurfer, balloon and dragchute would extract the most energy out of the wind. By just doubling the velocity of the wind we can extract 8 times more energy out of it, this is enough energy to pull the Windsurfing rover.
There are several different types of balloons this could be used with, zero pressure balloon, ULD balloon or a solar heated balloon. They all three have different requirements and durations.
Using the data we extracted out of the Viking and Pathfinder landers we have shown that this balloon dragchute rover design would move freely over Mars at those locations over 10 percent of the time. By doing this it could theoretically travel over 500 miles in a three week period at an average speed of 10 MPH for an average time of 2.4 hours per day.
This post was in the middle of an ongoing topic (#30). It was followed immediately by a welcome back by Rxke, but then the topic died.
I'll send SpaceNut's email, in hopes this member will still be around, but it ** is ** 19+ years later, so I'm not expecting a reply.

The username looks reasonable, but the email provider looks iffy ...
Ping reveals that the domain name existed at one time, and an IP address was assigned.
However, there was no response from a server (that is not evidence because response to ping can be turned off)
The IP address of the server is reported by whois: Austria
The username matches a location of Austria ... so far, so good
.at is confirmed to be the country code for Austria
There is a company "AON" but I doubt it is related to this domain name.

Not So Free Chat » What masters should a budding Sax Russell do?
I am currently casting around for a masters to do next year in the area of environmental science or ecological engineering. My BSc was in Ecology, and it included some environmental chemistry, soil sciences and microbiology, amongst other things. Suppose that a permanent Mars colony was just a few years away and I wanted to study something that would get me on track to be part of the crew as a terraformer or closed ecological system engineer. What should I study, and where? Obviously, career choices based on the above assumption should be viewed with extreme scepticism (and then some!), but I would nonetheless be interested in any suggestions people may have.
The post above started a topic, and there were replies by Shaun Barrett from Australia and Rxke from Belgium.
And that was the end of it.

This is a surprise!
I should hang around here more often.
The Mars Society Web site NEEDS a team of bright folks to completely rewrite the back end (Membership / Financial) part of the web. The current sign-up procedure leaves a wee bit to be desired. It is currently written to run on a Microsoft SQL / ASP server shared with about a billion other customers. I have set up a Linux / PostgreSQL / Apache / PHP machine and want to move the data, forms, and eventually the whole web site to a dedicated machine. But I never seem to have any free time to get this started.
There are one or two folks already working on this project, but I bet a team of 3 - 6 of you clever types could do this in less than a week. I'd prolly even support an easter-egg of the team... somewhere...

Hi, I've had a lot of reading to get up to speed with the huge number of posts before I felt brave enough to write my own...
The issues aftercolumbia raises had been troubling me in a computer game I've been writing based around the MarsDirect mission. It had got to the point where I had decided to ignore physics so I could get a playable game.
I think the solutions he proposes are exactly along the right lines and are used in many other disciplines: break the big problem down into smaller, more manageable ones.

The topic itself whithered until 2019, when SpaceNut brought it back with #18 in 2019
In any case, there is no way I'm going to send SpaceNut's email to a Ukrainian who used someone else's name and a hacked email account.
I found the answer .... the payload is a slot machine offer in the Signature
SpaceNut ... I recommend this account for converstion to TestID. The next available TestID is 18376

For SpaceNut re Email Outreach campaign ...
Today has to be better than yesterday, but we won't know until we investigate our candidate ....
Our candidate for today is: paisley2
The email address is consistent with the user name, but the email provider may no longer exist ....
Whois came up with a similar name: internode.net.au
Surprise! Ping found a server at internode.on.net
whois confirmed the server is located in Australia ....
paisley2 is member 1083 from 2005 First Wave

OK! We have a live server in Australia, and the username and email address look reasonable ... let's see what paisley2 chose as a topic
Topic: Re: Human missions » VSE/CEV lunar lander propulsion - discussion »
Hey all,
Wondering if people have any thoughts about the lunar lander/ascender module on whatever new stack is selected. I've seen very little specific mention of possible module design and mission profiles thus far (if I've missed something some directions would be appreciated). More specifically, if the module is required to stay on the lunar surface for some time, it will have to have considerable internal volume (inflatable?). Does all the habitable volume stay on the surface, or does it return to lunar or earth orbit? What about engine choice, staging (Apollo or LK style?) etc etc? Obviously you REALLY want those engines to work - are we talking about a revival of Apollo era hypergolics here? What other options are there?

This post started a topic, and there was one reply from SpaceNut, pointing to another topic.
This gent will receive SpaceNut's email. 17+ years have gone by, so the email account may have gone dark long ago.
Never-the-less, on the slight chance of success, I'd be interested in this gent's comments about developments and upcoming flights.
Sending.
