#1152 Re: Interplanetary transportation » Carbon nano tube straw for fuel transfer to space » 2004-02-26 07:09:50

Carbon nano tubes are well up to the task. Tensile strength is well within the bounds. It would be held in space by a counter weight. Check out this link it explains the theory well:

A carbon nano tube straw extended all the out to space from the equator would allow H2 or He to freely rise from the surface of the Earth to fuel stations in geostationary orbit. Just let it in the bottom, and let the differential pressure between the vaccum of space, and the pressure at sea level create the flow.
Any thoughts???

In that photo you can tell the sphere moved during the grinding process. Thus it has a very rough surface. If it were a clean break or groung very smooth you would see the dark spot.

These are spread through out all the different layers of the sulfur rich bed rock. There would have to be numerous impacts for this to happen during the formation of these layers. Not Likely IMHO.
The Layering could be from thermal spings long extinct. Organisms live at such locations on Earth. These could be fossilized organisms of some type that used to live at these locations. When Spirit arrives at the other crater I bet they find the same spereles in the bedrock there.

I have seen geodes that look like that. But, never that small BB sized. If it is it still points to a water formation.

#1157 Re: Unmanned probes » Broken spherele has dark spot inside it???? » 2004-02-22 10:40:38

Could this dark spot be a fossilized egg yolk? Could it be a layered sediment from water flowing? Check it out. It is still attached to the bed rock:

I agree, it can be kept liquid in many ways. Geothermal, solar radiation, chemical reaction. It would be neat if they can send a solar powered drill to drill a well for water. Even here on Earth they can drill, and find a water table in the desert. It would be neat to study the core samples also.

The Spirit rovers air bags broke through the top layer, and thus you can see the mud on it. The opportunity rovers air bag did not, thus no mud on it. The Opportinitys trench Looks like it has a brine solution causing the dirt to stick together accoring to yesterdays article.
A brine solution under ground will not freeze because it is insulated by the dirt from the cold air above it.It looks like the first one inch layer is frozen, and it becomes liquid below that.
Hematite is found in fossils also. The Opportunity rover found hematite on the surface where the spereles are. The spereles could be the source of the hematite, and could be fossils. It is not out of the question to have large bacteria that can form on another planet. There are large bacteria right here on Earth about the size of these periods........ They mention the shereles are about the size of a BB. Put 30 OR 40 periods together and you a bacteria the size of a BB.

"They pointed out they're not expecting a pool of water in the bottom of the trench!"

[Why not?!!         ]

The bottom of the trench is now the new surface, and what  brine that is there becomes frozen near the first inch of topsoil because of the cold air temperature. That frozen layer insulates the brine below, and it will still be liquid.

I would say those string like beaded bumpy areas are some other mineral harder on the mohs scale do to the fact they did not erode at the same rate as the host rock. If you look close you can see a shadow coming from some of them. They are most surly a raised area. They could also be a fossilized organism.
The spheres could be giant bacteria that feed on the sulfur in the rock as some feed on sulfur here on Earth.

1.)  Some fossilized bacteria do have hematite in them here on Earth.A process know as diagenesis.

3.)  The Mars rock investigation confirms sulfur in them.

4.)  Hematite has been confirmed near the sphereles on Mars. Notice where the most abundant location is. It is near the outcropping that contains the sphereles.

#1165 Re: Unmanned probes » PRETTY CLOSE MATCH FOR THE MARS SPHERES RIGHT HERE » 2004-02-13 13:22:18

Still huge for a bacteria, about the size of these periods....... for the ones on Earth. However, they may have evolved much larger on Mars. Perhaps, because of different physical conditions. Remember, Gods univerese is his playground!! He created all life within it.Also, we must think of how diverse life is on Earth and wonder how diverse it is in the universe.

#1166 Re: Unmanned probes » PRETTY CLOSE MATCH FOR THE MARS SPHERES RIGHT HERE » 2004-02-13 12:48:27

Sorry Adrain I thought it did make it stand out more. Anyways, I'll abide to the rule.

#1168 Re: Unmanned probes » SULFUR EATING BACTERIA ON MARS???? » 2004-02-12 09:08:06

Here is a neat article:
That rock on Mars that opportunity photographed is known to contain sulfur. Perhaps, sulfur eating bacteria???
Interesting, they form in chain like segmented structures, and are very large.

#1169 Re: Not So Free Chat » THEY FOUND YETI FROZEN IN SIBERIA » 2004-02-11 10:21:07

I didn't know there were dozens of UFO sightings every day.
Anyways, about the Yeti,I saw one when I was sixteen years old. Out in Redlands in South Dade county Florida, my parents owned a house in a rural area. They call them "Skunk Apes" down there, and there have been many sightings of them. I was going to the bathroom in the morning, and there it was staring through the window at me. That window was 9 feet off the ground, and his head took up the whole space. All he did was grunt at me. It scared the ? right out of me. I was lucky to be where I had to go. I quickly ran, and got my dad in the other room, and we went outside to where the window was. We heard the beast running through the woods breaking 3 to 6 inch sized pine trees along the way. The woods were to dense to follow, and we were to scared to chase after it.
Later that day after school was out, our neighbor was out in the front yard with a .38 in his hand, and his weimerammer dogs. He said he had chased the beast but couldn't get a shot off. This guy had sailed around the world in six foot sail boat that he made, and wrote a book about the adventure. So trust me, I know they exist. I saw one, and no I didn't do any drugs or drinking.

#1170 Re: Not So Free Chat » THEY FOUND YETI FROZEN IN SIBERIA » 2004-02-10 23:07:20

I want to know why we didn't report this story in the USA. It is huge news.

#1171 Re: Not So Free Chat » THEY FOUND YETI FROZEN IN SIBERIA » 2004-02-10 19:51:38

I agree was it real or not? Would they try to make a new species of man from it?

#1172 Re: Unmanned probes » SPHERE ORGANISMS COULD HAVE LAYED EGGS » 2004-02-10 14:17:20

In this photo you can see the chain like segments along the edges of the layers. They look like single cell organisms that are building the host rock like on a coral reef. Perhaps, those bead like spheres are organisms laying the cell eggs that produce the rock that they can form in, and later drop out of, and start the process over again.

Adrian,
Sorry if I got it incorrect. I am new at this forum stuff here.

#1175 Re: Unmanned probes » OSTEOBLAST BONE CELL FOSSILS????? » 2004-02-09 16:12:17

If you look closley at the image of Snout it looks like a chain of
segmented single cell organisms are linked together near the leading edges
of the layers that are protruding out a bit. You can see them just above,
and to the left of the spherule. They blend in pretty well to the rest of the
formation because the color is very close. It would be neat if those were
bone cells???? ANY THOUGHTS OUT THERE????
