#76 Re: Human missions » Cheap heavy launcher - can it be done at all » 2004-08-19 08:17:57

i haven`t visited the Sea Dragon site yet, so forgive if i`m a bit off. wouldn`t it be easier to build a "smaller" Sea Dragon? i had a similar idea to this & i`d go a bit further & possibly even more "esoteric". it appears that while the Space equipment isn`t being used it could be used underwater & this would include spacesuits.

#77 Re: Human missions » Moon vs Mars? - What did President Bush intend? » 2004-08-10 15:09:54

ian i think wer can still use the old lunar equipment. that`s one of the justifications for a MoonReturn. no matter what shape it`s in due to meteors, etc., it`s still refined metal, far better than mining. the only problem with it is it`s spread over a large area. some ppl tend to think of what we`re gonna do in OuterSpace are too often grandiose. we have plaenty of Lunar resources.

#78 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » One question, what would it be? - Contact with an ET, what would you ask? » 2004-07-06 14:12:17

that`s about what i was proposing, a meeting place in the middle, approx 25 ly away from both of us, a few posts back. & radiotimelag would be less as well.

#79 Re: Terraformation » Terraforming smaller bodies - SG spectrum of terraformability » 2004-06-28 09:21:53

terraforming is waay too far off for our purposes in OuterSpace in our foreseeable future. L1 would be the closest we could to achieving this as the general consensus is that L5 is longer the best for it. for one thing it`s convnient to many places. we`re not gonna get that many ppl into Outerspace to really hafta worry bout a terraforming project anyway @ rate we`re going.

#80 Re: Human missions » One-way ticket - An obvious cost cutting step » 2004-06-24 07:41:01

& now along comes: Mobile Parts Hospital. which is essentially same as 3D Stereo Lithography only this has the capability of replicating metals!! & i can`t possibly think of a more important item to be carried along in space exploration, save medical supplies, food, & air. as a matter of fact there should be one of these @: L1, the Lunar Surface, GEO, Phobos, or wherever we can reach. i`m not sure of the extent of it`s capabilities, but no doubt it will become streamlined just as 3D Stereo Lith has since it`s inception.

#81 Re: Human missions » One-way ticket - An obvious cost cutting step » 2004-06-24 07:28:54

actually josh, replication technology & has for some time now. it just hasn`t caught on yet & gotten cheaper. 3d stereo lithography has been around for awhile. this was only available for creating plastic objects & when i first noticed this abt 15 yrs ago thinking yes this would be perfect for OuterSpace.

#82 Re: Human missions » Using illegal goods to make mars profitable - The Martian Mafia??? » 2004-06-22 14:33:55

vices will be an inevitably in OuterSpace. it will be impossible to stop them.

#83 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » One question, what would it be? - Contact with an ET, what would you ask? » 2004-06-22 14:18:05

yes reb, i believe we are. however we should if possible continue to be an adaptable species. "do you have any colonies closer to us"? did y`all see an episode of star trek voyaqer where barkley used a pulsar to create a micro wormhole to communicate w/ voyager? would it help if we did use the help of a celestial body? i`d assume this message would be sent from the farside of the Moon or further out. we`d wanna have the sending unit clear of Earth`s interference.

#84 Re: Planetary transportation » Combining the Rover and Hab - Go RV'ing! » 2004-06-22 13:52:53

i`d imagine there will be times when crew would be dragging hundreds of pounds across Mars behind them on sleds. i`ve seen this in several scifi books, tho they were on the Moon.

#85 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » One question, what would it be? - Contact with an ET, what would you ask? » 2004-06-16 09:38:02

excellent idea. & it possibly deserves a thread of its own. i remem in OMNI magazine many yrs a go aspeculation about how man would evolveif he stayed on Earth & our climate changes continued. & it`s prolly easy to find this now prolly on google. it actually was kinda sad. the brain continued to expand, no teeth, hardly any limbs as we could levitate & use telekinetics to bring food, etc to us.

#86 Re: Human missions » The Case Against Mars - Why Mars is not a good target! » 2004-06-11 14:01:48

concerning The Moon. consider where Mars colonists could go after being atrophied there. i`m not fully convinced they could return to Earth.

#87 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » One question, what would it be? - Contact with an ET, what would you ask? » 2004-06-04 07:01:17

d`oh, sorry this question was directed @ hypothetical alien civilization.

#88 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » One question, what would it be? - Contact with an ET, what would you ask? » 2004-06-03 21:00:44

how far along are you in physics? to show our good faith this is how far we are. now, perhaps between the two of us we can break C.

#89 Re: Human missions » space debris » 2004-05-25 23:01:07

it would be a darn shame to vaporize it if there were a salvage solution. certainly LEOjunk should be vaprorized. i`m sorry to say to say ISS could eventually become junk too & how would we deal w/ that? Hubble way go to. a shame MIR had to go too. these artifacts can`t always be so easily replaced. i`m thinking whenever possible crash things on The Moon, possibly things w/ cameras. either that or higher orbit boost. btw does anyone know the highest "safe" orbit as i understand it GEO contains the Van Allen Belts which are atm inimical to humans, otherwise i`d think we`d have a manned station there by now.

#90 Re: Human missions » space debris » 2004-05-25 07:09:05

one solution may be sending unmanned craft to Geo & manned craft to high LEO. i`m led to believe the spacejunk is slower moving in higher orbits.

#92 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Amateur rocket fired into space - Civilian Space Exploration » 2004-05-18 14:29:52

there`s a reason why this hasn`t been done. 9/11 restrictions. pre 9/11 there was an actual contest happening in the Northern Nevada desert.

#93 Re: Human missions » After Mars - And why we should go indirect. » 2004-05-18 14:26:56

ya, martians will be far from emergency services. i like the concept in Green Mars about the stowaway Coyote using martain rocks as false teeth.

#94 Re: Human missions » Clunking to Mars - Are the needed parts already up there? » 2004-05-18 14:23:11

there must be a chart somewhere for this. atm i`m 2 lazy 2 lookitup. i think by the time we`re ready to put this up it will be downsized to an economy model. 3d stereo lithography went through several evolutions.

#95 Re: Human missions » After Mars - And why we should go indirect. » 2004-05-17 15:46:31

of course that doen`t mean going to mars isn`t a priority i think the most practical plan has always been MarsCycler. this we kill 2 birds w/ 1 stone, Mars & Moon colonies would both be smaller as a result, but we would have redundancies w/ this. i don`t think the public would go for permanent Mars residents, & besides i think permanent residents would get bored.

#96 Re: Human missions » After Mars - And why we should go indirect. » 2004-05-17 15:40:19

i don`t terraforming Mars will happen anytime soon, certainly not less than 300 yrs. building up a Moonbase is imho more important than terraforming Mars. w/ a MoonBase we could then build @ L1.

#97 Re: Human missions » Clunking to Mars - Are the needed parts already up there? » 2004-05-16 13:37:32

there`s an excellent system for all this salvage. the mobile parts hospital(google search). if this could be taken into outer space, salvage could be much easier. this system was born from 3d stereo lithography, heretofore only for use in mfg plastics.

#98 Re: Human missions » After Mars - And why we should go indirect. » 2004-05-16 10:30:27

& The Moon too often gets glossed-over. it`s extremely easy to as there are obvious deficits in moon efforts.

#99 Re: Human missions » After Mars - And why we should go indirect. » 2004-05-16 10:20:30

i wholeheartedly agree w/ the idea mars isn`t the be-all it`s being touted as.

#100 Re: Life on Mars » a book i read - about the book » 2004-05-12 16:37:15

it`s that, or hibernation, launch from lunarvicinity, L1, Cruithne. there are simply no compromises in this.
