As a member of the german Mars Society, I would like to inform Mars Enthusiasts about an ongoing project here PLUS invite you to an online conference on July 29:
The journey to Mars starts on Earth.
From July 17 until 31, 2004, a simulated 'habitat' lands in Berlin, Germany, at the 'east beach' - directly beneath the wall that once was the border between the western and eastern blocks.
The Berlin station is different from other analog stations in that it shifts the focus away from the scientific field over to the cultural and social conditions for a real mission. Instead of collecting rocks we explore a future culture that will drive human beings to go to Mars. The 'Mars rocks' project conducts research on this culture, in the fields of music, art, engineering and debate.
There is specially composed music and DJ-sets of electronic music, a live chainsaw sculpture, an on-site and online conference, a robotics contest, space food and more.
The current program can be found on the web (in german) at:
http://mars-rocks.org]http://mars-rocks.org
Organizer of the project is a group of culture activists that will continue to promote the manned Mars mission under the label 'Mars rocks'.
An online CONFERENCE about several aspects of manned Mars exploration will be held on July 29 and 30 in german, there is an english topic 'Mars Marketing' on July 29, 2004, 19:00 CEST - you are invited to join:
