Hi, I've had a lot of reading to get up to speed with the huge number of posts before I felt brave enough to write my own...
The issues aftercolumbia raises had been troubling me in a computer game I've been writing based around the MarsDirect mission. It had got to the point where I had decided to ignore physics so I could get a playable game.
I think the solutions he proposes are exactly along the right lines and are used in many other disciplines: break the big problem down into smaller, more manageable ones.
