Hi there New Martians,
Just sharing a bit of news...
Having retired from Mars Society Canada's board of directors, I am more active than ever pursuing the dream:
I've started two companies. One is called Interplanetary Expeditions Inc., who's slogan is Exploring Research Frontiers in Planetary Science and Exploration Technology. IPX for short.
The other is IPX Entertainment, Inc. IPXN for short. The slogan is Exploring Commercial Frontiers in Space Entertainment, Space Sports and Space Tourism.
Right now, IPXN is developing two television series. One I can't tell you about, as we're looking to be providing financial backing for this project and don't yet have the rights to it. The main one, the big one, however, I can talk to you about. Space sports. Imagine space tourism really taking off when sports in space can be offered. To have a zero-gravity sport, IPXN is developing a game for the weightlessness provided by parabolic flight through the Zero Gravity Corporation. We're going to start a sports league, called the International Parabolic Sports League, and we're going to be making a reality TV show based around it -- to select the athletes for the 8 founding teams in a draft tournament in which the player not only compete for a cash prize, but for a career in profession sports as well.
I'm always on the look-out for people to join my staff. Right now I'm looking for moderators for my board at http://coliseum.spacechampions.com/ Please check it out. I'm also look for programmers to help develop a private peer-2-peer network for the distribution of Space-themed entertainment -- so-called Internet video-on-demand. Send me your resume if you have the skills. You may also sign up for our newsletter at http://lists.spacechampions.com
Regards,

I recommend reading this article. http://www.spaceref.com/news/viewnews.html?id=915
From it is seems Bush, O'Keefe, Cheney etc. are quite genuine in supporting this and have thought it through a LOT. I think it is a good plan.

Hello people of NewMars!
I come in peace! Take me to your leaders or I will fire my death rays at your women and children!
Sorry, I've just been listening to the War of the Worlds -- over and over and over again. Why? Because that's the only thing I have to broadcast on the Radio Free Mars site as of this moment. However, I do have copies of the lectures for MarsWeek 2000 and 2001 on cassette tape, and as soon as I can get some of that converted to MP3, I'll be broadcasting those.
Visit the new RFM site at http://www.radio-free-mars.org
I'm trying to figure out how to host a live debate over the web on RFM. I'd like to get a few of your New Mars regulars to debate some topic online and broadcast it live to the world. Any ideas how to do that, and what topics might be fun?

At this year's convention past crewmembers and mission support people got together over pizza to discuss several problems with the hab -- the toilet issue, water and power, a few other things. There will be upgrades to the MDRS hab this September. A new generator will be installed, and solutions to the "bucket brigade" have been put forth. I'm not sure if there is an intention to get an air conditioner in there. Email Frank Schubert and ask, and propose your ideas: therub9@aol.com
The expedition takes place in February, but other crews will begin mission this October.
I'm organizing a 30-Day mission to the Mars Desert Research Station, on behalf of the Mars Society of Canada, and the Mars Desert Research Station Science Commitee.
MSC is essentially renting the station for a month. We are raising the funds ourselves through sponsorship arrangements, though some crewmembers are paying their own travel costs.
Visit MSC Expedition One to learn more about it.

Sure, please volunteer. I'm busy with other projects, so I've recruited other people to organize RFM. We have a mailing list at Yahoo (send to RadioFreeMars-subscribe@yahoogroups.com) but some members apparently have problems with accessing some of the web features. The Mars Society Canada webmaster has developed a message board over to which we might move the organizational discussion.

All you need is a microphone and your soundcard on your computer to make recordings. I would love to hear some lively discussions on RFM. Care to organize a New Mars group chat?
