#1 Re: Pictures of Mars » flying to Mars... » 2005-08-12 00:50:28

In the distance Seanoir saw a reddish ball with two smaller balls orbiting around it. "Seanoir, that is the planet Mars and its two moons, Phobos and Deimos," he telepathically transmitted to her.

At great speed they reached the planet, passed the high mountain Olympus Mons, twenty-four kilometers high, flew swiftly across the huge canyon Vallis Marinris, whose length is about 4,200 kilometers and whose depth about 6,000 meters, and landed at the south pole. During his fast flight Tiama imagined that he was hearing the segment "Mars" from the symphonic work The Planets by the English composer Holst.

At first sight it seemed that great cold gripped the planet.

The ground was not stable, and rust-colored mirrors of broken ice could be seen in the surrounding area.

Apart from the two butterflies there was no sign of life. Only surfaces of brownish ice and immense glaciers sunk into the ground greeted them.
