News about Marspedia
October 16, 2020 - 2020 Annual Report presented by James Burk & Frank Crossman at the Mars Society Virtual Convention.
There seems to have been an update as recently as December 26th (I'm assuming 2020 but am not certain of that)
To entire forum ...
Is there anyone else in the group who is interested in the possibility of creating a long-lived(ie, permanent) store of knowledge for use by a hypothetical Mars settler?
I've been tossing out ideas (generally to SpaceNut) but there appears to be a chance that there might be a suitable venue in the Mars Society "family" of activities ...

]]>oops, that's the talk page, but whatever
]]>So, I guess we need someone who is a member of Mars Society to help us with this.
Example: Category Mars (as a planet)-> 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Category ISRU -> 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Category Human missions -> 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Category Robotic missions -> 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Category Space sciences -> 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Category Culture -> 1st, 2nd, 3rd
etc....
What do you think ? And is there any member of Mars Society to help us with some printed diplomas, with Mars Society logo on them ? Or something similar... Maybe a map of Mars or something... I dunno.
Of course, all articles will need to meet some guidelines to be accepted.

]]>Given the dominance of Wikipedia can the new mars wiki really compete with hard facts about Mars? This seems unlikely and perhaps not even desirable; if it does it will detract from wikipedia and if it doesn't it will be 'yet another bland Wikipedia ripoff'.
As John Creighton already pointed out, there are a lot of articles on wikipedia which are not by far complete for a future Mars colonist. This is something very normal, as wikipedia is only an encyclopedia covering huge areas of knowledge.
For example, there isn't at all any article about the Rotterdam System. I just wrote one for NewMars wiki.
And, good work, cIclops !

You mean flEshed out!
Heeheehee! I really was confused there for a second....
:oops:
]]>But maybe that's the point: make it go away ASAP, by fleshing out articles.
Exactly
Great job you're doing, BTW!
Thank you. Everyone is doing a good job!
]]>*gooooooogles*
Yay for the ol' grey cells! http://ocw.mit.edu/index.html
A perfect beginning. Thank you!
]]>A section of the board, dedicated to all things New Mars Wiki!
I kept nagging Josh about this, and now that it is here... The whole thing seems daunting, because it's so empty, but it shouldn't.
The way I see this section, (but don't take my views too seriously...) well it would be a place to discuss some Wiki-related stuff (duh); The advantage of a 'walled-off' section is that it doesn't have to interfere with on-going discussions on the board, if you see something on the boards, instead of 'interfering' there and starting to discuss how it could fit into the wiki, just post it here, with a link to the discussion etc...
-To suggest articles;
-To REQUEST articles;
-To point to existing or budding threads on the board that could be used as a basis for Wiki articles;
-To post your stuff. There are probably people that do not want to work out how you add content to a Wiki, no problem, just put it up here, and ask for it to get 'wikified'...
-etc, etc. (I hope someone comes up with batch of good suggestions)
